CALIFORNIA 1980

Post by warferry » Sun Mar 01, 2020 10:48 am

These are from my box of dodgy shots have tried to clean them up a bit.
It was 40 years ago fly into LA hired a car and did several thousand miles.
One of the places I had to visit was Chino, back then not gates to stop you getting airside.
Visited Blackbird Air Park ,Hemet for the fire bombers, several airshows so some of these mixed in.
Great trip take a look. Terry

Love that line of USMC Hornets which surely must be more recent. I'd have expected them to have still been operating Tooms back then.

Great shots! I presume the first three are much later dates though with an F14 at Chino (1980 probably a bit early for the preserved MIG too) and the Blackbird Air Park not opened till the 1990s AFAIK.

Thanks for posting, always good to see

The A-12's were still classified and hidden in a hangar in Palmdale. The Airpark was officially dedicated in 1991. SR-71 17973 last flew in 1987 after it was broken by the pilot at Mildenhall Airfete.
