Not really, as there may have been permanent aviation plans that would have become viable.

Yep. Probably worth noting that I don’t think he’s the only one with a say regarding activities at Bruntingthorpe.

Indeed if money not been spent on returning the Vulcan airworthy condition it would still be at Bruntingthorpe and hopefully would be the centre peace of a National museum collection of real importance. The the millions spent could have financed a long term plan for teh Vulcan and many other aircraft around the country. However I seem to remember there being opposition from the local council over such museum plans. Will be a sad day in the aviation preservation world if Bruntingthorpe has to change the way it currently operates.

I'm sure you're correct there, aside from John (the Father) there's his wife Olivia's & the children John-Boy, Jason, Mary Ellen, Erin, Ben, twins Jim-Bob & Joseph, and Elizabeth. John's parents also live with them - Esther and Zeb! A large family with differing opinions I'm sure? Having owned a mountain previously, an airfield is small-fry. Goodnight John-boy!

I think you are correct that the Market Harborough District Council objected to a number of plans over the years regarding the development of the aviation side of the site.

However, I don't think a "National" collection would ever have developed as that suggests government approval and being brutal the current lot haven't exactly supported any museum with year on year cuts ongoing. I'll also be honest, I would much rather that the money put into XH558 got us those extra wonderful seasons than she had ended up as just another airframe slowly rotting away. Another thought, I would have thought the Lightning Group would have agreed long term plans before getting the QRA sheds installed.

I went to the last running day at the end of August '19 and was amazed at the number of cars, including literally hundreds of Land/RangeRovers and also the large number of JCB/earth moving vehicles about. Many more than when I have visited in the past. However, that said, it is a huge site and I would have thought there could be an option to provide sufficient runway to allow taxying if not a fast run.

If you look at the latest Google Earth image of Bruntingthorpe, you will, like I was be amazed at how big the car park is now. So many unsold vehicles. The Lightnings looked boxed in.

I am at the Bucc photo shoot on Saturday and they have said a brief over the future will be given so I'll see what comes of this.

The brief didn't really add anything that's already been said on here but it was said that the Buccs are going, they're currently in negotiations with 2 sites although they weren't named. Some aircraft have to move, some don't which didn't really make sense as it was also mentioned that things could be back to normal in about a years time, as clear as mud at the mo!! The issue is that Brunters has some 27,500 vehicles stored on site, half the runway is covered in cars which I should think will put the kibosh on any fast taxi days this year.
