Patch Display Ideas?

Post by Turbo 1 » Tue Aug 20, 2019 10:47 am

Hello all,

Just a quick question about how other forum users display their patches? Framing, Velcro Board etc....

Looking for a few ideas of how to display my collection. Seems a waste to have all these lovely patches and for them to be kept in storage.

If you've got pictures of what you're currently doing with your collections, even better! Would love to see for some ideas.

Cheers.

Hi there

You could frame them for the wall (if you have space and are 'allowed' of course)

Put mine in a box frame, cover the backing with an appropriate colour felt (the patch velcro sticks to the felt) and that's about it. Small box frames are relatively cheap

If the box frame is too deep build the back out with MDF and cover that in the felt. If too shallow make a spacer out of beading picked up cheaply from the likes of B&Q

Example below - although a 'box' frame there was no space between the glass and the backing so made a spacer out of some beading and sprayed it black

NB - have been advised that it is best to have a space between the glass and patch - if condensation is permitted to build up between the glass and patch it will over time rot the patch

Failing that, just remove the glass from a frame and cover the back in felt. You can then swap patches around whenever you want (see below)

Hope that helps some

Hi Darren

Sadly not ... I'm away on holiday in Cornwall so unable to make it.

Will be down for the December meet though.

Hi there

Here's a couple of displays that I have for my RAF 101 Sqn memorabilia. What I have used are large T-shirt frames available on e-bay which also provide for a brass plate inscription along the bottom of the display, and which also come in a variety of frames. The main part of the display are squadron T shirts upon which I have affixed the various patches commemorating the VC10 retirement from service and more recent events with Voyager.

Sorry about the reflections from the glass but hope these are of interest.

Mark
