This morning on Flickr Alfred Fartknocker fav'd one of my photos from Tyndall 1994
Thanks mate for having a brilliant name and brightening up a dull morning in Norfolk.
If ever I needed an argument to stay in the EU that is it - we just don't have that class of name in the UK.

Chapter 13 of This Sceptred Isle written by Christopher Lee..
" The England of the late 1370s and early 1380s was leaderless, overtaxed and at war, and not very successful so. A dull war that celebrates nothing has few compensations for those at home and brings opportunity to protest that dues and poll taxes are unfair.
...and so the Peasants' Revolt failed to achieve its objectives; although it did kill, for the moment, the poll tax. But the uprisings of 1381 showed just how much the people had lost confidence in those who governed them. "
Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

Re: What made you laugh today?
OH spotted this on Facebook this morning.
Christmas Dinner....
I have concluded that the inevitable stress of Christmas dinner is created by adverts and supermarkets....
It's a Sunday dinner for feck sake. We do it quite happily 51 weeks of the year but can we the consumers be trusted to manage by ourselves on one day of the year, apparently not!
Here goes...
1. Turkey... It's a big fecking chicken that's all, 20 minutes per lb plus 20 minutes at 180 degrees - jobs a good un! Get yourselves a meat thermometer £3 off the Internet poke it in the offending bird if it says 75 degrees or over its cooked!
2. Stuffing - regardless of what Jamie Oliver says you do NOT need 2lbs of shoulder of pork, onions breadcrumbs, pine nuts and a **** load of fresh herbs to make stuffing.... What you need is Paxo and a kettle!! If you wanna liven it up squeeze 3 sausages out of their skins and mix that in with your Paxo before cooking
.
3. Gravy - Jamie Oliver is copping for this one aswell....
Bisto Jamie.... All you need is Bisto!
4. Vegetables. Never mind faffing round shredding sprouts and frying them with bacon and chestnuts to make them more palatable, If you don't like them don't buy and cook the fecking things. If your family only eats frozen peas then that's good enough!
5. Roast potatoes. Yes I part boil mine then roast them in goose fat or whatever you want to use, but Aunt Bessie also does the same
.
6. Trimmings,Christmas pudding Mincepies and the like, whatever shop you use or do what I do bake them yourself
7. Family. Children, Feed the little blighters first separately, if they only want turkey with tomato sauce fine leave em to it, it doesn't matter. Once they are fed oh fudge them off to play with their Christmas presents so that YOU can enjoy your dinner in Peace!
Adults. Anyone that can manage to get their sorry arse to your dinner table is also capable of helping to serve up/ sort the kids out/ clear the table /wash up /dry up etc.
And Finally.....
NO ONE, And I mean no one APART FROM THE COOK IS ALLOWED TO GET pee'ed AND FALL ASLEEP BEFORE THE WASHING UP IS DONE!!

Re: What made you laugh today?
We're away on hols at the moment, but ref the above...
There's a lovely Chinese restaurant in our little village that always opens on Christmas Day. It's fully booked and even happy to do take-always for the alternative, or more discerning palette.
The great thing is that any/all food left at 6pm, along with cooking extra is taken to a shelter to feed the needy.
Spare a thought for those as we enjoy ourselves.

Welshandy - bloomin brilliant
Never have got the siege mentality to Christmas and every other Bank Holidays.
We pre-ordered our meat from the supermarket and were given a pick-up time between 0600-0800 yesterday. It was worth getting up early to have a normal quiet-ish shop. Home before the masses descended and chaos ensued!

Gosh! Cripes! Thank goodness I logged on and read welshandy's post.

Still time to fire-up the barbecue for the bacon to put in the sourdough baguettes.
Baa! Humbug!

Re: What made you laugh today?
I am not laughing but £1.49 for a pint of Doombar in the kings Lynn wetherspoons had put a smile on my face!
Edit : even at £1.49 Doombar is not my cup of tea. Moved on to 'north western' a light hoppy ale brewed by the Bright side brewery. 4.9% £2.15

Re: What made you laugh today?
Nothing wrong with that Jem60 . Due to my IBS Ive cut down on my alcohol intake & feel better for it. I still enjoy a pint of Ale though, enjoy it even more now I've cut back.

Heard on Radio four the other day : " for most people a funeral is a once in a life time occasion"
Re: What made you laugh today?
Listning to Graham Norton on Saturday whom was talking to Tom Baker former Dr Who
Tom was explaing how he had aquired an old headstone and having got it cleaned up, found a guy who would engrave his name on it and date of birth / blank
anyway he goes on to say that he then placed said headstone against a wall in church yard, and whilst doing some tidying up in church yard noticed a guy taking a bit of interest in his headstone, after a while said guy comes over to Tom and explains that he was very sad of his demise and that he had put some forget-me-nots beside headstone and he had hoped he would not have been offended. the guy then shook Toms hand and walked away - Get It!! - or maybe not it was funnier listening to it rather than posting it. But I Tried
