I think these 3 impressed me the most when I saw them for the first time:

1 - Lockheed SR-71 (Mildenhall 1981)
2 - Lockheed F-104 Starfighter (Volkel 1981)
3 - Vought F-8 Crusader (Valkenburg also many moons ago ;-)

Choosing just three is just plain tough ... here's mine though ...

1. Supermarine Spitfire
2. Rockwell B1B
3. Blackburn Buccaneer

And now apologies to the Lancaster, Vulcan, Hurricane, E.E Lightning, Tornado, TSR2, Concorde (not Mil I know but), A7 Corsair, F14, F15, to name but a few that are also awesome aircraft.

2 - Harrier (any variant)

No, but what a great "What if...?" Can you imagine a Concorde in that sublime 1960s RAF Transport Command scheme...?

I could answer this with many aircraft, but if I had to be hard on myself and strictly just pick three I'd go with these...

Avro Vulcan
A-10 Thunderbolt II
Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird

TankBuster
And there's plenty more where that came from!

Very difficult, but of those seen regularly I would have to say:
1. SR71 Blackbird
2. F4K Phantom (Speys)
3. F111F Aardvark

The 'heroic' aircraft of WW2, Hurricane, Spitfire Lancaster, Wellington, Mosquito would feature if I had seen them in service and number 4 on my list would have to be the EE Lightning. But I could go on!

Too many choices but here's my current thinking

1) SR71 - How the Heck did they design & build that thing in total secrecy with the limited computing power of the time
2) F22 - The way in which it can fling itself about the sky is mind boggling
3) = B1-B - When I heard & Felt one take off at full power, Live loaded from Fairford during the Balkans (IIRC) campaign it left a lasting impression, such power & built to do onw thing.
3) = A10 - When I was much much younger seeing one literally track up the side of the hill I was stood on, seeing clearly the pilot & then him passing overhead waggling wings was again an impression forming moment.

Thinking through the years there used to be so much variety I could change the list multiple times.

Can we have 3 lists 1 for all time faves, 1 for British & 1 for WW2

English Electric Lightning FMk 2a. (Over the FMk 6 because of the nose mounted cannon)

Hawker Hunter FGA9. (My dad made a wooden model from blueprint when I was 5 in 51. The aircraft has been beautiful ever since)

North American P51D Mustang. (That bubble canopy, fuselage underside and undercarriage, coupled with power and grace)

Classics with very appropriate names.

Regards.

1: Buccaneer S2B remember seeing Laarbruch based ones.
2: Lightning f3 standing on its tail and disappearing rapidly at Caythorpe collage near RAF Cranwell ,last ever time I saw one fly.
3: F 104 G multiple aircraft seen low level over Osnabruck giving it some welly.

These burnt into my memory at an early age, ergo my top three.
