I suppose i could, although i try to use the road as little as possible.
Legally, as the road is a public right of way and unless the TRO prohibits it, you have the right to pass and re-pass. You don't have the right to cause an obstruction there - which can be argued to include stopping, waiting and parking. I'd expect them to be pretty hot on moving you on if you attempt to stop within the TRO affected zone. So from the sounds of it if you cycle down there you're going to have to stay north of the telephone box, or south of wherever the south-side closure is. Unless, of course, you want to be cycling back and forwards all day for 8 hours. :thumb:

don't worry mate i will be cycling as usual too and i am sure there will be ways around that closure, i mean its hardly the only route there is.
i actually prefer the view from further down the runway, you get more of the display and there are less people. the end of the runway is usually packed with people and last year there was vast fence erected(mexico paid for it ;) ) to stop people going on the verge and putting up ladders. as James Cutting rightly said it's been something that has needed to happen for a long time, places like yeovilton have closed the roads all around for a bit now.

Shows are now more responsible for "secondary crowds" when people don't take notice of road and path closures what can they do. I know, :'( why don't they abandon the display and send all the people who have paid to allow the show to go on in the first place home. Take a hint, post Shoreham they are only doing what they have been told to do. I live in the vicinity of Farnborough and as a young lad used to watch the show from the woods out of everyone's way, security staff now patrol the woods and move people on. We have to understand that if we don't either contribute to the show with the huge hikes in insurance cover or take notice of the rules there won't be a show. its as simple as that.

Flyby and Totterdown will be no different from any other years. They are simply closing the main footpath/cycleway, and laying a metalled path behind the hedge to divert people away from the closed path on the side of the road. Access from Whelford end will still be possible on foot and I assume by bike, they may have to be pushed though, I don't know. The new path will be marshalled in order to prevent people stopping and setting up camp on the side of the road as per previous years. It's a road safety action more than anything.

Every year i feel encouraged to see the new ways RIAT find to increase their costs. Its a first class effort.
That wierd orange fence on the airfield side of the road actually caused more dangerous situations than whatever had gone on before, as it gave cyclists no chance to pull off out of way of lorries and such like to let them pass. Consequentially it backed traffic up towards Kempsford. It must have cost a few bob to erect as well, though i remember last year them not actually really finishing it such was the qualtity of their approved contractor.

Now not content with that, 1/2 mile metal road is being funded on farm land that they would probably have had to give some consideration on?

And for what purpose? Cannot be to force people to use the park and view for extra revenue, as that proffit has been blown on orange fences and excavations for metal roads.

While i agree that nobody should be allowed to literally sit on the approach lghts, cos that is crazy. It seems a huge effort to avoid exactly what?

Shoreham, insurance, Health and Saftey i hear the cries......

An unfortuante error with tragic consequences on the part of a pilot can happen at any moment anywhere.

Get the speed, gate height, orientaion wrong and its going to happen again. Human nature is to make a mistake from time to time. Thats why many planes crash i guess. Maybe not the pilots fault, but maybe that of a fitter that left a hatch not latched properly or did not tighten the nut enough. unlegislatable. Big Beautiful Doll at Duxford etc

For many years, the park and veiw car park was in the bomb dump.

then, in a moment of genius they swtiched it to on base parking. meaning that cars approching from Lechlade have to wait to turn right across the traffic into the car park... so what?... well, it now means that it backs the traffic up towards lechlade, so you have stationary traffic under the approach.

I remember thinking clearly another great stride had been made for progress when the stationary double decker full of school children almost had its windows blown out by one landing in year before last.

ho-hum

I am a little confused by this. They mention that they will lay a metalled path behind the hedge, but the field behind the approach to 27 is pretty much a quarry now and there is a huge hole where there was once a field is there not? I cycled past yesterday evening and this still looked to be the case. How are they going to lay a metalled path way here? Also how far down are they going to go? Are they going to rip through the fences all around the bomb dump to extend the path down towards Kempsford? Seems like a lot of 'construction' is going to have to happen in order to facilitate this.

When was the last traffic accident around the airfield area involving people sat on the roadside watching the show, ??

And to be honest i'm not sure if they will be directly flying over townsend farm. You might be lucky there.

It's been long overdue, a closure like this of this scale. End of the day, if you would like to watch the show, then buy tickets (this applies to a lot of people, not just you mate)
I agree with James, buying tickets is the sensible way to go surely, you have all the amenities you need and you are safe (as safe as you can be at an air-show)
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Ignore previous post of mine! For those interested, I went back down to the end of 27 and have now seen the new trackway in the field opposite. For those who are interested I can send photos if required.
