Deer
Re: Deer
It's amazing how much damage a small deer can make to an aircraft.
My former bosses car got absolutely totalled by a deer. He didn't hit the deer, the deer hit him.
Came out of the woods and went straight into the side of his car whilst he was doing 50 (talk about milliseconds of convergence)...
Made such an impact it pushed his car onto the other side of the road. There was half an engine compartment left afterwards. A total write off.
Now think what damage can be done to a thin skinned aircraft fuselage or landing gear upon impact at take off or landing speed... i can see why the pilot breaked so much and crapped himself.
The only way to stop deer is to put an 8ft chain link fence up with overhang but obviously this can't be done at the threshold. I guess the bird scarer needs to spend more time at the threshold than anywhere else!

Re: Deer
OK, so I got the year wrong, but in a post elsewhere on FC or CA (can't be bothered to check which) I previously highlighted the AIB report, which as I said was what I presume triggered the BBC's article.Flaps wrote:It happened on 08/10/2009 Rob.

Get me the permission and I'll solve the deer problem - I have all the necessary equipment and experience and there's room in my freezer

Re: Deer
[quote="HighlandSniper"]So, where/when are we going to have the FC BBQ?
We must be a very non-PC bunch, normally on most forums the bunny-huggers would be threatening to lynch me by now
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fighter Control enclave , Kempsford Camp site RIAT July 15th -18th 2010. I'll bring the big buns and Redcurrant jelly, and maybe the odd bottle of Red or six. Somebody bring the big frying pan ,if I can I'll get up to Stockport tomorrow to get the burner!!

Waiter: And how would you like your venison cooked Sir ?
Beefsteak : Just wipe it's ars* and take the horns off.

Re: Deer
It's difficult to describe as there are six wild deer species living in the UK - well seven if you include Reindeer - and all are different.Lowfly11 wrote:That's one meat i've never eaten..whats it taste like..i'm drooling with that photo!!!.
Fine grained, more delicate than beef, but the flavour gets stronger and more gamey the longer you hang it. Very tender, very lean, totally organic unless farmed, utterly awesome.
BTW you can buy two wild venison steaks for just over a fiver in Tescos.
Re: Deer
When we were first married, and in the days before kids, we used to have all the family over for New Years Eve, sit down meal copious amounts of Red and White , the odd bottle of Champagne etc. I always tried to do something different , (Pheasant, Quail, Goose (Sorry mate), Duck etc) This particular year I decided to source some Venison from Tatton Park (Not a million miles away) Two haunches were ordered and paid for (£40) and duly cooked on the afternoon/evening of the 31st.
Unbeknownst to me my sister in law and her fellow had become staunch vegetarians, the haunches were also a lot larger than expected , leaving an enormous amount left over ( I could easily have got away with one haunch) It was very tasty and as said it needs hanging for a while to bring out the "gamey" taste
Anyway my point being. Has anybody ever had Shepherds pie made with Venison ???

Drop me a PM if you want any recipe ideas.Lowfly11 wrote:Many thanks for the replies, i might give venison a try.Regards Lowfly11.
Anyone who says venison is dry or strong has either had badly cooked or badly handled venison, it's a gorgeous meat. My favourite dish takes fifteen minutes, start to finish, venison steaks in a port and redcurrant sauce - yummy.
