Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Not sure if it's a bluff just came across an article on Facebook about Turkey apparently purchasing 48 Typhoons
Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Aren't Turkey developing their own next gen fighter after being thrown out of the F-35 program?
Looking at the list of Turkish AF kit it shows 243 active F-16s and 48 active F-4s so even personally being sceptical about this story being true it could be a straight swap for the F-4s.

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Is there still an embargo on American kit ? If true would make sense they buy two seat Typhoon to the same specification as the new German aircraft.
Starbuck. If it is a straight swap for the F-4 the RAF could send them 48 Typhoon and we could have the Phantoms at Coningsby. LOL

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
yea, its only if they can not buy more F-16s

Turkey has, for the first time, officially pronounced a possible purchase of Eurofighter Typhoons in case if the United States fails to sell Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcons.
İbrahim Kalın, Turkey's presidential spokesperson, confirmed the previously reported plan, telling local NTV news channel on 23 September, “We have negotiations with Europe regarding […] Eurofighter […] Turkey will never be without alternatives.”
Turkey made a request to the United States for 40 F-16 fighters and nearly 80 modernisation kits for its existing warplanes in October 2021.
The US administration warmed to the sale of the fighters to Turkey, Kalın said, as the Joe Biden administration in June threw its support behind the potential sale after Ankara lifted a veto of NATO membership for Finland and Sweden.
However, a condition set out by the US House of Representatives in July 2022 to ensure that F-16 jets sold to Ankara are not used to violate Greek airspace has been rejected by Turkey.
Before Kalın's comment on the Eurofighter, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that if the United States did not sell F-16 fighter jets to Turkey, Ankara would be able to procure warplanes from other countries.
“Britain sells, France sells them, Russia sells them. It is possible to obtain them from everywhere,” he said in early September 2022.

Thanks for the Link Ravendriver2008. That release sure as hell looks like a bad 'Artist Representation' of an F-22 ?
BUT hey!... they can't buy those either.

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
The US airforce will have plenty of F16s surplus with the F35 replacement program.
Can be sure the USA will bow to Turkey to offload
F16 for them, after sales for spares and upgrade kits is to much of a deal to lose.

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
I'm suprised, don't the Turks buy from the Russians these days
Surprised they are still in NATO.

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Only thing I can think of that Turkey bought from Russia was the S400 SAM system, but Greece bought the S300 and SA-8 Oska. Don’t think many major powers would buy from Russia nowadays, not only because of the embargo but the unreliable follow on support.
Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Do we know if construction for these would be happening at Warton?
All the major operators are already purchasing more. I think it would be a shame for the UK not to put in a small Tranche 4 order for themselves, especially to cover the imminent withdrawal of all the Tranche 1s.

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Agreed, but they also don't always follow the other NATO countries in condemnation of world events. They were alos being used a s a re-routing point for Russian fuel entering the EU which goes against all sorts of sanctions.
Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Maybe, but the EU were only too happy to allow it therefore breaking their own sanctions, so who’s the one in the wrong.
Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Around 40% of each and every Typhoon is built in the UK, some at Warton but mainly at Samlesbury. Final assembly ia carried out in Germany, Italy, Spain and at Warton in the UK. I have seen reports that the Turkish a/c would be assembled at Warton owing to German sensitivity and Italian and Spanish lines being busy with their own additional orders.RubyRoo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 12:03 pmDo we know if construction for these would be happening at Warton?

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
The Turkish purchase of the S400 system was what caused the US to remove them from the F-35 programme and refuse to deliver the jets they already had built, such was the sensitivity of the deal!
Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
IF not alrady a done deal then Trump will sign the deal, Turkey will get its F16s
Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Turkey signed the new build F-16 deal with the US last June.

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Thanks, It was always extremely unlikely that they would be refused, even more unlikely that they would get Typhoons insteadAlf wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 8:38 amTurkey signed the new build F-16 deal with the US last June.
