Edit: looking back on the photos now, the ones on the wings look fine, its the fuselage as thunder stated, especially in this shot:

One thing I haven't been able to see in a photo yet is if the wing stripes are on the underside too. I have seen a couple of images where you can make out that the fuselage stripes are on the underside, so I'm guessing they are.
I see what you're saying re pushing the stripes further back, but they're spot on for those who love to photograph a "topside pass". If they were further back, the tailfin would break the flow of the stripes.
The previous D-Day jet was a pound shop effort. I saw a rendered proposition for what it should have been at the time - pretty much what "GiNA" became and almost what "Moggy" (sorry, purists!) now is.
I can't wait to sketch it!
