Bruntingthorpe closure
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
Just imagine what Bruntingthorpe could have become had the Vulcan been in a position to consider it as a permanent home. A live, national CWJ collection with the Vulcan as a centrepiece.
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
Well one of the idea's - Vulcan to Bruntingthorpe was scuppered by GREED, by the people who were 'looking after it'. And Bruntingthorpe closure - scuppered by Mr Waltons GREED.
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
Yes, the outcome would be exactly the same as it is now, Vulcan or no Vulcan, and therefore, if present, another one looking for a new home!ColintheCaterpillar wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2020 6:20 pmJust imagine what Bruntingthorpe could have become had the Vulcan been in a position to consider it as a permanent home. Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
Until I hear it from David Walton stating everybody must leave.... then I will wait.
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
"loss of some airframes...when & if the day comes."
As I noted previously, we really should wait for an official statement from the Waltons. Alternatively I would like to see ( perhaps copied here?) a Notice to Vacate the site as served upon every aviation related business? Until such time all this bed-wetting could be for nowt!

Or given Supra's closing line maybe legs crossed too!
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
Not really, as there may have been permanent aviation plans that would have become viable.bizfreeq wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 11:15 amYes, the outcome would be exactly the same as it is now, Vulcan or no Vulcan, and therefore, if present, another one looking for a new home!ColintheCaterpillar wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2020 6:20 pmJust imagine what Bruntingthorpe could have become had the Vulcan been in a position to consider it as a permanent home. Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
It was his generosity and vision which saved XH558 in the first place and has,I am sure, the ability to ignore stupid, ill-informed comments like that.
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
Yep. Probably worth noting that I don’t think he’s the only one with a say regarding activities at Bruntingthorpe.
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
Indeed if money not been spent on returning the Vulcan airworthy condition it would still be at Bruntingthorpe and hopefully would be the centre peace of a National museum collection of real importance. The the millions spent could have financed a long term plan for teh Vulcan and many other aircraft around the country. However I seem to remember there being opposition from the local council over such museum plans. Will be a sad day in the aviation preservation world if Bruntingthorpe has to change the way it currently operates.

I'm sure you're correct there, aside from John (the Father) there's his wife Olivia's & the children John-Boy, Jason, Mary Ellen, Erin, Ben, twins Jim-Bob & Joseph, and Elizabeth. John's parents also live with them - Esther and Zeb! A large family with differing opinions I'm sure? Having owned a mountain previously, an airfield is small-fry. Goodnight John-boy!ColintheCaterpillar wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 10:21 pmYep. Probably worth noting that I don’t think he’s the only one with a say regarding activities at Bruntingthorpe.

Apart from what appears to be a feeble attempt at ridicule, these parts of your post are correct.Supra wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 12:27 amI'm sure you're correct there, aside from John (the Father) there's his wife Olivia's & the children John-Boy, Jason, Mary Ellen, Erin, Ben, twins Jim-Bob & Joseph, and Elizabeth. Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
I think you are correct that the Market Harborough District Council objected to a number of plans over the years regarding the development of the aviation side of the site.Doughnut wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 11:17 pmIndeed if money not been spent on returning the Vulcan airworthy condition it would still be at Bruntingthorpe and hopefully would be the centre peace of a National museum collection of real importance. However, I don't think a "National" collection would ever have developed as that suggests government approval and being brutal the current lot haven't exactly supported any museum with year on year cuts ongoing. I'll also be honest, I would much rather that the money put into XH558 got us those extra wonderful seasons than she had ended up as just another airframe slowly rotting away. Another thought, I would have thought the Lightning Group would have agreed long term plans before getting the QRA sheds installed.
I went to the last running day at the end of August '19 and was amazed at the number of cars, including literally hundreds of Land/RangeRovers and also the large number of JCB/earth moving vehicles about. Many more than when I have visited in the past. However, that said, it is a huge site and I would have thought there could be an option to provide sufficient runway to allow taxying if not a fast run.
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
I am at the Bucc photo shoot on Saturday and they have said a brief over the future will be given so I'll see what comes of this.

If you look at the latest Google Earth image of Bruntingthorpe, you will, like I was be amazed at how big the car park is now. So many unsold vehicles. The Lightnings looked boxed in.
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
The brief didn't really add anything that's already been said on here but it was said that the Buccs are going, they're currently in negotiations with 2 sites although they weren't named. Some aircraft have to move, some don't which didn't really make sense as it was also mentioned that things could be back to normal in about a years time, as clear as mud at the mo!! The issue is that Brunters has some 27,500 vehicles stored on site, half the runway is covered in cars which I should think will put the kibosh on any fast taxi days this year.
Re: Bruntingthorpe closure
Oh dear,it sounds rather official to me,this is looking like the end of the road for brunty,s fast taxi daystornado17 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 8:43 pmThe brief didn't really add anything that's already been said on here but it was said that the Buccs are going, they're currently in negotiations with 2 sites although they weren't named.
