I'm sure that Jon's spirit will forever fly with the Reds. R.I.P Red 4

And there's plenty more where that came from!
Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
Next year, the whole World should see a "missing" man formation during the Olympics, assuming that the Reds are invited. Then all could see what the British spirit is all about. Just a suggestion to the people who decide such things.
Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
Nice sentiment, but not really what the Olympics is all about.richkc135 wrote:Next year, the whole World should see a "missing" man formation during the Olympics, assuming that the Reds are invited. Then all could see what the British spirit is all about. Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
Firstly, the Olympics is a World celebration and the Reds have been seen all over the World by thousands of people,
Secondly, the skill and professionalism of the Reds has kept the "Great" in Britain for years.
Thirdly, the Olympics is an opportunity for the host to show off all of that countries best qualities

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
I was in my own little world at a festival all weekend and had no media of any sort to watch or listen to.
A shocking, sad sad day for me on Monday. Those guys give me and the Mrs so much fun watching them fly with such skill and dedication, and hearing them on the scanner of course. It just hits home how dangerous the job is up there....and for what?
........for us down here to enjoy....thats all.....they do it for me and you.
Thoughts are with family and friends and fellow Reds/Blues.
R.I.P Red 4.........R.I.P

Sorry dude I don't get your point. Is it that because there was a single tragic accident we need to celebrate it by letting the world know a year after the fact - with a missing man formation? Really? Lots of emotion around right now, but lets look forward, not linger in the past. If indeed the organiser's do decide on having the 'Reds' at the games, they will obviously be there as a tribute to the nation as a whole and a good job they will do as ever.richkc135 wrote:Firstly, the Olympics is a World celebration and the Reds have been seen all over the World by thousands of people,

Lets just look down the road a bit shall we. Somebody has to climb into the '4' jet someday, not a particularly comfy seat to fill I would imagine for the incumbant? Perhaps that seat will be taken by a current member who knows. 12 months on in 2012 let the past be the past. There is nothing wrong with looking back on happy memories, but the focus has to be the now and the future. It goes without saying that the memory of John Egging will live on, just as the chap who died of cancer and the one killed in a training accident and the others before them. Blues skies eh?

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
For the poor pilot that lost his life to cancer a couple of years ago, I'm sure the Red Arrows paid tribute to him by having one aircraft use coloured smoke when the others were white or vice versa (can't remember which thoughKINROTATE wrote:Sorry dude I don't get your point. Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
was at Bournemouth air festival Fri, Sat & Sun. There was a very sombre mood there on Sunday when the 1 minute silence was observed.
Nice to see lots of people wearing red shirts / tops etc.. Would be a real tribute if it was advertised that for next years event everyone wears an item of red clothing

Kind regards. Stu. H
Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
It would make more sense to incorporate the missing man formation into next years display, rather than the Olympics.
Anyway, let's try and keep this thread just for tributes please.

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
I think they should perform the missing man formation through the heart. I think that would be quite fitting. Totally agree about a missing man formation being a fitting tribute.

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
There was alot of speclation that the Reds had been snubbed fro the Olympics, even so far as to a petition was sent to parliament. The Reds later released a statement saying 'we dont decide where we are going to appear until the start of the working year! So you can see how rumours can circulate beyond control.Hawks922 wrote:It is my deepest hope that there is some decent News coverage of Jons funeral and the RED's get to perform the missing man display a fitting tribute to a young man who entertained us and made us feel proud to be British. As for Olympics I did hear some time ago that the RED's will not be invited, because they were said to be too British, has the decision been changed?

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
The cancellations are completely understandable due to the circumstances
As an outside observer (and a huge fan of the team), 3 things stand out in my mind that lead to the team potentially cancelling the rest of the season.
1) Noone knows how soon the jets will be released back into service. Obviously, this could be as soon as early next week or stretch out into the first part of September (depending on the preliminary findings of the accident review board).
2) The team will have to shake the rust off (so to speak) from not practicing (I think I read somewhere that they demand of themselves that they have to practice something like every 3 days minimum if not performing at a show). I realize that this isn't a daunting task as the team has practiced a great many hours prior to the events of last Saturday.
3) based on the press release cancelling the rest of August, the remainder of the season is... September... If the grounding goes too far into the month, the workup time may take too long to see them ready to display in public in time.
I certainly am not trying to be a doom and gloom guy. I was just thinking through everything that's going on and the times it has taken them to be ready to go following less tragic accidents.
Regardless, the team will move past this. They have had a very successful time in the Hawk and I feel that will continue. They have lost members prior to the transitioning to the Hawk and were able to move ahead.
This too shall pass
Cheers!

They have also lost members since operating the Hawk as well (all be it via a non aircraft related matter) .
Just thought I would add that.

On another note...
Dartmouth Regatta which was due to have the Reds at 18:00 to close the event each day is conducting a minute silence at 18:00 and on Friday for everyone (after a facebook appeal) to wear RED when visiting the town. Thousands of people are attending wearing red in honour of Red 4.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but we should also be honouring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the middle east this year too! I am worried that the phrase "out of sight and out of mind" is starting to come to the fore.Next year, the whole World should see a "missing" man formation during the Olympics, assuming that the Reds are invited. Then all could see what the British spirit is all about. I completely agree that Jon Eggings death is a shock and very saddening, but please let's not forget about our brave ladies and gents who are suffering the same fate!
Respectfully,
