RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020
Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020
Good news for all those with jobs in the Mildenhall area, however I still believe the RC’s will be moving to FFD

And still the "Know it alls" know nothing.
Why can't people understand a simple article yet blow it out of proportion?

We can finally change the title of this thread!
Right - when are these F-35 arriving at LN? It doesn’t look like 2020 (as per thread title).
I bumped into the chap we purchased our house from the other day who is a project manager for one of the construction firms working on the F-35 stuff and I completely forgot to ask him when they were due. Sorry!

Early October 2021, pretty sure they were never due to arrive this year...

I assume one Squadron will replace the 493rd's F15's & the old F111 days 495th will be re activated. I only count 59 HAS's(Google earth) are they constructing more to cope with the extra aircraft?

495th to be reactivated, the C's eventually replaced.

I don’t think they will operate from HAS - I think they are building the covered flight line ‘sheds’ - is there a technical term for these? Like at Marham. In fact when I went on a base visit last year they said that the F-15E’s basically sit out on the flight line anyway.

That seems to add up then. On my last visit to LN, I noticed that the Wing CO's aircraft had a four colour fin-flash (the forth colour being green - 495th?)James Cutting wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 2:03 pm495th to be reactivated, the C's eventually replaced.

Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

Sure it wasn't the 56RQS flash on the tail, they did not get rid of it a for a wee while after they went .??roughcutter wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 3:30 pmThat seems to add up then. That's correct Mr. Bollo. There are two new Commanders jets now, one for the FW and one for the OG. They don't carry the green flash.BOLLO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 4:04 pmSure it wasn't the 56RQS flash on the tail, they did not get rid of it a for a wee while after they went .??roughcutter wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 3:30 pmThat seems to add up then. If was a few years ago and had a green stripe it would have been for the 56 RQS. But they have since departed unless the AC hasn't been painted yet which I'm sure it has beenreaperops wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 4:34 pmThat's correct Mr. Bollo.
