Ah the good old days at the fence and on base with the Aviation Society. Need a time machine so that we can take all the digital gear back to the 80’s / 90’s !

Yes, that would be amazing..such a pity our gear was limited in those days...

I went back to UH, last year to see what was left, and to be fair, not a lot. (where i could access), the brown derby gone, Bowling gone, cinema gone, about 5 years of my youth went with it as not only was i an infrequent visitor to the railway end, i was quite a frequent visitor to the ramp, having a next door neighbour who was a 'tech sergeant' on the sparks at the time.

Was taken over to 'the other side' a few times but the rows of barbed wire, towers, dogs etc, put me off, plus there were no planes in that bit, the hangars were further 'up hill'

Went to the last 2 big shows there, and on the sunday caught the Vulcan (558) with a seemingly audacious low level (on climb out) wing waggle. And to my horror now, i ignored the Victor climb out earlier. Grrrrrrrr

Then when War went to the gulf, i found myself in the valley by the canal, mesmerised at the amount of 141's in the pattern to land, i counted 9 in the sky as i arrived. quite amazing.

I still speak to my tech sergeant' mate, now living in Sacremento, and we meet up occassionally, he's a good story teller, being an armourer further out east on phantoms during the Vietnam War.

Happy days, so soon ended.
