Re: Flying Legends 2024 Cancelled

Hello, I was just listening to the We Have Ways podcast with the late Richard Grace and there was a brief mention of Flying Legends 2023 at the end. Does anyone know if it will ever return or have any information?

I have heard "Exercise hawser link" as a possible name.

Also ZK555 has just left as of 18/11/2024 18:43 with ZK560 leaving a few hours earlier
Thanks very much.

Re: LOG Woodvale 12th November 2024

Just out of interest, does anyone know the actual exercise name for this? I've not seen one mentioned for this.

From the train as I passed at 4.30pm today everything has left apart from 3 Chinooks parked on the disused runway

Re: Woodvale gliding.

The Viking gliders are visible on the runway 26 threshold on Google maps satellite view now. Also the grass runways can be seen running parallel to the asphalt runways

Re: families day

Thank you for your replies. I was going to go in the hope of some visiting frontline types on static, so glad I didn't bother now.

Re: families day

Were there any visiting static aircraft or was it just based aircraft? I was going to attend but problems on the trains meant I got as far as Rhyl and have up and went home

Re: Woodvale gliding.

I dropped into Woodvale yesterday but no gliders were active and just Tutor UAM42 G-BYVI operating. There is a lot of work being done on the airfield however with grass runways being prepared presumably for the gliders and work to the taxiway to the runway 21 threshold. The notam for works is AD WID...

Re: Woodvale gliding.

I went passed on the train on Saturday and they are operating from the disused runway 16 threshold area with the caravan, gliders and winch all there. Would make a great photo from the path West of the railway line, but sadly I didn't have time.

What were the frequencies if known please, thanks🙏
There's a NOTAM for the gliding which just says:

121.000 Woodvale Information
119.750 Woodvale Tower

I'd guess 121.000 as being your best bet

A friend shared a photo with me that showed ZE626/XQ at Woodvale as well so could be either of these.

Woodvale gliding.

632 VGS has temporarily moved to RAF Woodvale to operate their Viking gliders on weekends. Spotted today was ZE629 and another was pictured in the hangar but identity unknown.

Re: is this correct?

I was camping in Minffordd and can confirm the Typhoon made one pass through the Mach loop. Didn't realise how rare it was until others mentioned it at the campsite. Definitely got lucky on my first visit to the loop!

I'm looking to attend this but the only issue is getting there by train. What is it like getting into the show from Church Fenton railway station? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks as I can't find anything online about airshow days

Battle of the Atlantic weekend 26-28 May, Liverpool.

I thought I'd start a thread for the BOA event in Liverpool with Seafire, Swordfish, BBMF and Poseidon all taking part and visiting ships having aircraft aboard I'm sure. Full schedule is We are delighted to be welcoming Navy Wings and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to Liverpool during our Ba...

Hi Chris.

Callsign was definitely Lifter 01 as he passed over Altcar heading east. From memory I believe it was ZK551

Re: Interesting RAF Station Crests

The crest & motto from RAF Woodvale are the same as used today by Support Command. I believe Woodvale never had it's own crest, however this year for RAF100 they've had a competition to design one. Earlier I cycled past and it wasn't on the main gate yet. https://www.raf.mod.uk/our-organisation/sta...
