Revell C-17 III or A, any difference?

Post by StuBie » Sat Apr 23, 2011 9:56 pm

Hi all,

Was getting some building supplies from on of the local model shops today and noticed that Revell has now got a C-17A kit out aswell as the Globemester III 1/144th. Apart from the decal options (C-17A has RAF & Qatari full livery) are there any real differences in the kits?

Also are the RAF decals any good in the kit or would it still be better to get after market decals?

On another note, if any of you are in the Oxford area Howes models in Kidlington is now stocking kits again on a trial basis to see how it goes. Only Revell kits at the moment but it is good to see some more suppliers in this area :)

Howes models - crikey, a blast from the past. I spent many childhood hours in their shop during the 1960s/70s when it was in Broad Street, and many, many kits were bought from there. I didn't realise they were still going.

There is no difference at all in the kits, the proper name for the C-17 is the C-17A Globemaster III. i didnt even realise there was a difference in the title! The first one has a couple of USAF options, whereas the second has ZZ174 (not as depicted on the box) and A7-MAB.

Likewise Rob! Although I spent many hours (and pounds) at the Broad Street shop from the mid 80's until they moved in the 90's to the new location which is near Kidlington shopping square on the Banbury Road. Soon after they moved they seemed mainly to concentrate on R/C aircraft and cars etc with the kits being phased out.
Glad to hear models are making a come back(albeit for trial)..think I'll have a wander down there and have a look :thumb:

Their old building in Kidlington is now a tattoo studio. The new place is good as they have much more space to display stuff.

Cheers :thumb:

I know that in real life the C-17 is called this but Revell have them boxed up as 2 different kits obviously name changed to avoid confusion. Are the RAF decals any good?

Langford Lane - isn't that the road running from the Banbury road past the airport entrance up to the Woodstock road? I actually lived in Kidlington 1963-72, but haven't been near the place since 1992. I can't picture the previous location in Banbury road, but I guess that part of Kidlington has changed hugely in the thirty years since I left the south to return home.

The old shop in Kidlington:

The new place:

If this helps.
