Another great selection from St Mawgan, one of the more interesting shows to attend. The first shot, the Argus, one of my favourite types, but a nice selection of fast jets too. Thanks for sharing these with us.

Lovely set. I'm "thirding" the vote for the Argus and "seconding" the shot of the Hastings as my favourites. The latter used to fly at altitude over Nottingham when SCBS was still operational at Lindholme, so to see one on the ground was a treat. And, as Freeman has already said, the colour schemes of the day were much more appealing than the "50 shades of grey" we enjoy today!

That F-4D raises again the question of that funny green seen on a number of USAF a/c (all around the world) used where tan should be; as far as I can find out there's no definitive answer to whether it was a dodgy batch of USAF Tan which faded or a bad paint batch -or some wrongly labelled tins.

Disagree with that. First, in Euro 1 (lizard) the tan was replaced by a dark gray ( and that’s another story) not green; second, that green was seen on only a few a/c, including in PACAF, but usually in a partial respray and often on part panels or the fin with the rudder unrespayed. Consequently you had a/c with the two official greens, tan and that green; fairly sure there are pictures of that Phantom with tan on the other side. EDIT. In fact if you look at the fin you can still see tan under the LN tail code.

Cor! Drooled over these pics for ages - any post with F-4s and F-104s does it for me every time. As one fellow FCer observed, the a/c all look pristine, almost just off the production line (which is far from the truth for most types). Thanks for sharing (more please!).

Brilliant set! The Victor pilot disgraced himself on arrival by running off the end of the (8000") runway and heading up the field towards us. The Victor sank in the soft ground so we had another Hastings fly a tow bar in early morning on show day and another coming to pick it up the next day. Five Hastings still flew in those days and we had 3 in two days....

We heard ATC debating how to land with a Victor off the end of the runway so they switched runways and landed over the top of it, from what I recall (I was 11) it was decided to switch back as the wind was not helpful. Elf & Safety were not part of the debate. The seventies were ace!!

Great set of photos. This was my first St Mawgan Airday and I only took a few photos with my trusty Kodak Instamatic so it's really nice to see what the aircraft actually look liked compared to my blurry images. I was only a young lad and don't remember seeing most of the types featured. Great trip down memory lane.
