If true from the Daily Fail and the S*n, then how on earth do crew, and then the pilot walk around the aircraft, send it out for flight, NOT realise there's a bright red cover?! Something doesn't make sense :S :S

Nobody will get a "rocket" - fortunately we have all (well at least the UK military) moved away from those neanderthal days into what is known as a Just Culture in aviation safety - find out why what happened did and learn from it.

Think the "report" was written by the Daily Fail work experience kid, who has obviously been reading too many Tom Clancy and Dale Brown novels. I just loved the idea of the pilot hanging off the flight deck by his parachute and being rescued by an Helicopter.

It should be borne in mind that even Wikipedia banned the Fail as a source. I wouldn't trust a word in that rag.

When sucked in to the engine , it can't be floating around in the Mediterranean afterwards I guess... or these were very small parts.

Also can an aircraft have enough power when one of the airintakes is covered (more or less) shouldn't be the take off be abounded then.

Or things were laying/flying around the deck. I believe whether was bad.

Daily Mail, so half the story and important detail will be missing/not understood anyway, but, putting that aside, I'd hope that before somebody is for the rocket if at all, it would be far better to investigate the casue of the incident in conjunction with a review of processes and change and learn from it if needed. It's been proven for many years now that this makes for a far safer and better organisation than a blame culture.

A few years ago, the Swiss Air Force pilots didn't do a kick the tyres, count the wings etc., walk-around. That was the ground crews job, to make it suitable for the pilot to light the fires. Don't know whether or not things have changed in recent times.

The one lost isn't ZM154 - it returned to Marham today.

About a quarter of a century ago a taxiing BA (I forget if it was a 737 or 757) ingested a poorly - if at all - attached very heavy thick plastic baggage-cart rain-cover with attendant rubber ties and metal clips spewing (most of) it out onto the Ben Gurion ramp. Just saying. Either way the Daily Wail story is total cobblers as nothing on the F-35 program is likely to be "cheap".

As far as im aware the intake blank was pushed further down the intake so no one could see it. Possibly a guy was working down the intake and using it to rest on. The aircraft was 40knts of takeoff speed so he ejected and landed back on deck. This is what i was told last week.

ZM152 is rumoured to be the jet involved.

If the clip is genuine then maybe I owe the Daily Fail work experience kid an apology. I would imagine that the aircraft will be in pieces not just from impacting the sea, that's a fair old drop from the top of the ski jump to the sea surface, but then being "run over" by the carrier. Pilot was lucky he got snagged and wasn't also "run over". A helicopter winch seems the best way of recovering him, very lucky escape.

That clips is now allover the main media channels.
The clip is a bit fuzzy, but why can you see the white underside of the lift fan door. It looks like its flipped over.? Could this be a reason if the door as failed and bit of it have gone down the fan.

Quick to eject, obviously that wasn't recoverable but I wonder if in certain flight regimes the ejection is automatic ? I believe this was the case with the Harrier in certain circumstances.

I think that is just the poor quality of the video and lighting/angle of the sun, any lack of vertical thrust caused by what you suggest wouldn’t affect horizontal thrust from the main engine and the aircraft appears to be going (too) slow on take off which suggests to me a problem with the main engine/intake.
