The first of a feast of 'frames

Post by paddyboy » Sun Jan 28, 2018 8:31 am

Hi Peeps :P

These oldies are all from the first of the 20 years of Waddo displays that me and SWMBO were fortunate enough to attend :D

As with most displays in the UK, the weather ranged from a heat-wave one year  , to iffy another year :( , and who could forget the monsoon year :Wow:

Nice selection as always Paddy, look forward to seeing others. I did no spotting at all in 95 (cannot remember why) so missed out on this show.

Hi Paddyboy :P
All classics, thanks for taking the time to post.
Of course for me it would be the Swiss F5s.
Still going strong and yet to be replaced by the Swiss Airforce.

All the best

Great pics as always! Cheers for sharing

The Monsoon year... never forget that one, we were on the road in the early hours of that morning on our way up to Waddo and our car broke down two miles south of Duxford on the M11 with a failed ignition coil. Shortly thereafter we heard that the show had been cancelled due to the rain. I wish I'd have just stayed in bed and not bothered, what a day that was :grr:  .

And there's plenty more where that came from!

Waddingon back in the day always managed to attract something different, another venue chopped over the years, thanks for posting.

Hi Peeps :P

Thanks for peeking and replying

As for the 'Monsoon Year', we had got onto the base really early doors, in just heavy rain, which became HEAVY rain, and were told, over the tannoy, to stay on the airfield

Then, as the rain became even more biblical, we were told get off the base now :Wow:

I think they were worried that if we didn't manage an egress then, we would be stuck

Best regards ;)

And to think someone once said 'Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.' Still alive and kicking (as Simple Minds once sang) here. Esp liking the display F3. As for the monsoon - I'm still drying out!

Could not resist sending in these 2 shots. In 2012, when the mini Hurricane decided to hit the place, I stayed by the fence. Near to the traffic lights under a plastic sheet, well wrapped up in it to be precise. I took the 737 Wedgetail just prior to the down pour and the Hawk after the rainfall.... :thumb:

Paddyboy

Ah, I remember Waddington 95 very well. If my memory serves me right, 95 was the first 2 day airshow Waddington put on. I was an SAC in the RAF based at Waddo and if I am correct the F-117 was there also. My main role within the airshow was coach parking duties, although the second day we had virtually no coaches to park due to the fact some little scrote(s) messed around with the off base signage which meant that all bar a couple of coaches parked in the car park and not the coach park.
