Hadn't seen one of these before with all these aerials, anyone know what the red and white barbers gizmo pole function does? :P

It's Experimental kit for 'Close Shave' ops and occasional 'Something for the Weekend' ops into hush hush locations! Lights at the top also help provide illumination for 'close shave' ops.
The second tall pole is for the cameras that record the 'close shave' ops for later putting onto YouTube.
And the smaller pole at the front (and I'm surprised that no-one recognised this) is the special ops Google Streets camera pole, to help plan future incursions into hush hush locations.

Chris

Very good catkins, have you noticed that many C5s at the Hall have up to four of these fitted.
Just how big is "something for the weekend" for one of those!
Stig.

It looks like the barber poles is catching on, is it so that the F15s can see the probe baskets at night

They should keep those red covers on, then they could fly through the ash clouds.

Rumour was rife that a Boom Operator vacancy had arisen at The 100th ARW, the guys on the Scanners on John's field somehow managed to get the message through because after lunch 37 applicants had turned up for a refresher lesson :P

Aren't these the 'Something for the weekend' special ops crew? Quite a catch as they don't tend to be seen and photographed 'in the wild'! Thank god for the internet though, as where else would we get to see such things.
