Mildenhall Friday 27th - my take

Post by DanBeeden » Sun Mar 01, 2015 9:23 pm

Hi all,

With the prospect of a sunny day, I made a morning visit to Mildenhall on Friday in the hope of catching one (or more) of the visiting RC-135s or the NC. We were treated to some interesting movements and it was great to meet some other forum members.

Adam (Zymurgy661) has already covered the highlights in his superb post but these hopefully add a bit in terms of an earlier movement and my perspectives on the day. Mindful of some recent early departures of the TDY RC-135 I arrived bright and early:

Departing just as the sun crept over the forest was this nicely marked Illinois ANG KC-135R

Wisconsin ANG KC-135R 63-8023 'Reach 542'

Resident TDY RC-135W departed late morning as 'Dong 52'

The RC sat on the under-run just long enough for me to dash up onto the mound and capture this shot which is one I've been wanting to get for a while:

I hope these are of interest,

Dan

oh fudge.
I've got a few days at Center-Parcs, so will be squeezing in a trip to the hall.
Sadly, I won't have a step ladder, am I screwed? ( I'm 6"2)

Nice pictures Daniel, and nice meeting you.

Regards, Arjen.

(Guess the Dutch photographers are just to the right of the picture).

Scudpilot - no you'll be fine. A set of steps is needed to shoot over the top of the fence but they aren't essential for getting decent shots here. The last shot is taken up on the mound which gives you clear view over the top of fence of anything using taxiway 'echo' (that's the one directly opposite the mound) and lining up on the under-run (like the RC), so don't worry!

That last shot is brilliant! I think your ladder was next to mine in the corner Dan, a great couple of hours I must say!
