On the same report, a statement was read from Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging's wife who was at the show.

Words cannot describe how sad we all feel for her, for Jon's friends and for the rest of the Red Arrows Team.

They were at Fowey (Cornwall) on Thursday evening, and did another great display.
Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me !!

Was lucky enough to see the reds display at weymouth on wednesday of this week, it was as usual an excellent an flawless display, really shocked an saddend by the tragic news of todays accident :-( R.I.P. RED 4, Thoughts an condolences to the family an friends.

Sad Day for all, my thoughs are with the family and collegues.

Don't shoot me for asking, but does anyone know the reg of the lost airframe?

The reason I ask is that I photographed the aircraft Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging Hawk was flying for the Southport airshow last month airside at Blackpool. It was XX260. On the 7th of August the same aircraft flown by Red 7 declaired a 'PAN' then 'MAYDAY' while displaying at the Blackpool airshow due to Fuel and Hydrolic issues.

That incident was due to a major birdstrike I understand and the airframe involved is still at Blackpool and is unlikely to ever fly again, according to reports elsewhere, it has no bearing on todays tragic loss.

mmm, I wonder was it is then? I was up there most of the day yesterday looking at possible photo locations, didn't see it in any of the usual places or hangars.

EDIT: a friend just sent me this from last weekend. I'm sure its not at Hangar 3 now.

Such a tragic loss of a truly great aviator. An act we sometimes take for granted, but all appreciate the skill and professionalism the guys/girls show. All parties associated with FL Jon Egging can be proud of what he represented and i'm sure they will be really touched by the amount of support/respect/heartfelt condolances people up and down the country and all over the world will be showing tonight and the coming days.

In the midst of the events today i think a little credit should be shown to the rest of the arrows pilots for getting down safely. With them witnessing what happened from the air, the sense of not knowing/shock must have played on their minds. So well done to the rest of the team and our thoughts remain with you and all the family + friends.

May we all raise a glass in your memory.

Heard rumour that there is a suggestion for anyone who is attending Bournemouth airshow tomorrow (Sunday) to wear an item of red clothing as a mark of respect. Have to say i find the prospect of a sea of red on the beach quite touching......

I wont be at Bournemouth tomorrow,but I will be attending Oxford Fly to the past and me and my family will be wearing red in respect of Red 4. Rest in Peace

utterly stunned and gutted, even several hours later I can't take it in.

RIP Jon and Red 4. I saw them at Kemble and they were as superb as ever. To see them so close to you for takeoff and landing makes you somehow feel you know them.
According to the Reds site the airframe he flies is 308. I can't imagine what the pilot of the Hawk following him must have felt watching the event unfold in front of them.

One of the elite, a pilot who showed he had what it took to be one of the best. He may not have been on active duty in Afghanistan, but he died while serving Queen and Country, representing HM Armed Forces and will still be regarded as a hero by many, including myself.
