Delivery of RAF F-35 Lightning next month.

On Tuesday 5 June 2018 around 16:20 hrs local time, the first four F-35B Lightning II aircraft are expected to be delivered to 617sq at RAF Marham.

The four aircraft involved (ZM145, ZM146, ZM147 and ZM148) are at this moment part of VMFAT-501 "Warlords" at Beaufort MCAS (SC).
By the end of July 2018, another five aircraft are expected to be delivered.

Did I read somewhere that the main 24/06 runway is being closed for maintenance? Is this in place yet?

I was there last month and they were still using the main but Tonkas did shoot a few approaches on 19.

I have managed to wangle a few days off next week. But it's going to be chaos. I just hope that people will be sensible and not trample the farmers crops. If you are going please stick to the edge of the fields. There are always. Few bell ends who do it and also leave litter everywhere.

I read on the interweb somewhere or twitter that runway 01/19 is finished and ready for use

Lots of people will be doing what you said you are doing - taking time off especially so we are the traffic and crowds

There were asphalt removal machines at the 06 end when I drove past last week. Whether they are doing it in stages like Waddington or closing the whole lot I don't know.

I agree - why wouldn't they use the brand new surface

277.225 ATIS is your friend!

It would make life easier if only one runway was available on the day so could do with 24/06 being worked on etc

( Won't make any difference to the crew as they have probably never landed at Marham except in a virtual world!)

Ahem... In theory they could plonk em straight down in the car park. They don't need a runway.

RAF Marham is very much looking forward to welcoming its first F-35 Lightning aircraft at the beginning of June. This significant milestone in the F-35 Lightning programme comes two months ahead of schedule and marks a momentous occasion for the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy.

We are currently unable to give an exact date of the arrival as there are a range of factors that must be considered to ensure optimal conditions for the flight. We are aware that there will be a great deal interest in the arrival of the aircraft and we are working very closely with Norfolk Constabulary to ensure that those who wish to witness this historic event can do so in a safe environment. There are currently no plans for any road closures to be put in place around the base. However Norfolk Constabulary will be in the vicinity of RAF Marham to ensure that any increase in traffic on the day is managed safely.

We are in discussion with local landowners who are looking into the possibility of providing safe areas for members of the public to view and photograph the aircrafts arrival.

Further information will be posted on the RAF Marham Facebook page and Twitter @rafmarhammedia

If they don't do a fly by over runway I will eat my hat and spend a whole day at Gatwick!

I spent an hour this afternoon at Marham and they switched from 01 to 19 without updated ATIS - luckily someone noticed the lights had gone off

The delivery for today is cancelled because of bad weather on the east coast of the US. I do not know when they will be coming, a decision has not yet been made.

Waiting for the "but they are all weather fighters!!"

Yes, they are. But currently, they are not "fighting" it is a delivery of aircraft. They won't risk them flying through poor weather just to deliver them and please the spotters.
