Farewell Lynx Flight

Pleasantly surprised by the amount of coverage it’s getting in the media- given that it’s not particularly an aircraft that will have any real resonance with the public at large.

I don't know a British design that has seen nearly forty years of service, still in production as we retire our last examples, served in many major conflict zones, world air speed record holder for true helicopters and Prince Andrew flew one in the Falklands, what more could you ask for?

Even with a Royal connection it’d still be surprising to me that the likes of the BBC are carrying it to the degree they are- id have thought only the Chinook would be that well known as a helicopter among the wider public, otherwise it’s probably “a helicopter”, possibly sub divided into “big” or “small”.

Imagine how many armed forces personnel have worked on, flown on and gone into action via the Lynx over the near 40 years - it will be an awful lot.

My brother had a free flight in one in 1980 after he blew his arm off in Germany - he's a fan of the Lynx for sure!

I think Chinook will be the flying platform for video / photographers to record the final flight? I'm not watching any video coverage yet but presume by end of day that we'll get the view from the Chinook's ramp

Just departed Shawbury. 10 minutes early. It was just the four Lynx, no Chinook.

A Chinook (which was with them at Odiham, is I think meant to be joining again once they reach Lee Valley prior to routing along Thames.

ZH900 was the photo ship at Odiham this morning.

ZH893 SHF410 appears to be holding around lee Valley, so probably the camera ship if the mode s is correct.

Actually ZH900 Valhalla 5 called Farnborough joining up with Lynx's via Bansted and meeting them at Banbury Resivior in Lee Valley.

Watched them arrive back at Odiham in the middle of a hailstorm, bang on schedule at 16.30 local, in what looked to me like a 400' ceiling, if that. Visibility was so bad I didn't see the accompanying Chinook at all!
Anyone know what the future holds for 657 Sqn?

They came right over my house near to Leicester on their way from Shawbury to Tilton on the Hill, which was probably the first fly past point, Tilton is where a Lynx went down several years ago and there was a gathering at the spot today.

The gathering at the "spot" was about twelve vehicles parked to watch the local hunt go past not long after the four Lynx can over.
