Canon 5d mk2 versus a new 750D

Post by Headancer » Mon Jan 01, 2018 10:40 am

I'm thinking of trading in my Canon 5d mk2 for a new Canon 750D. Great camera but financial constraints prevent upgrade to say a second had mk3.

At circa £550 I'm wondering about selling up and buying a new 750D.

I'm taken with the 19pt autofocus system which many say is exceptional.

Am I compromising ?

Depends what you shoot but I'd say not. 750 has Digic 6 processor, better than the 5D II Digic 4 IIRC, better low light pics, noise is certain to be better even if it is a crop sensor, plus or minus to that is your lenses will have a 1.6x magnification so long lenses longer, wide lenses not as wide. It'll be new so reliability shouldn't be an issue, but I would seriously recommend getting your hands on one and getting a feel for it. I think it's physically a lot smaller than the 5D so you just might not like it. Also it won't have weather proofing like the 5D but if you don't shoot in the rain and snow that shouldn't be an issue, it won't be as robust so knocks and bangs the 5D shrugs off might damage the 750. But if you can save up and get a second had Mk III I would.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

If you're considering the 750D have you also checked out the 77D? Looks pretty good based on it's specs that I've seen online.

Hi Headancer,

I always think to myself when thinking about buying new equipment, will it make my photography better. Will the 750D make your photography better or is it just the newest thing or is the 5D holding your photography.

Just saying.

I'm totally with you on this point, I use a 50d and a 5d Mk2 with a couple of 'L' series lenses and I think they will last me for quite a few more seasons, and as you say, would a newer model improve my images/skills, probably not.
Invest the dosh in new glass..
Just sayin too :thumb:
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!
