Re: Fighter pilots told 'keep windscreens clean'
So, there you are. howling around the Mach loop in your Typhoon, pass through a whole load of insects, etc., and then what, open the canopy and clean the windscreen?????. Windscreens are always cleaned before flight. Rampies job,
Going back many years, there I was, howling around over the Bucks countryside at Mach whatever in my Aerobat, having to avoid a Jaguar coming from Abingdon after a major overhaul back to East Anglia, and I asked myself 'whatever happened to max 250knots at low level over a major town.' See and be seen is very difficult at the speed he was travelling!!!. Guess his windscreen was dirty??

Errr wasn't their guidance to keep inside the windscreen clear of maps and books?

Page, I'm sure you're correct.page_verify wrote:Errr wasn't their guidance to keep inside the windscreen clear of maps and books?
The number of fighter pilots, in particular, that have nav charts and maps stuffed in their 11 or 1 o'clock field of view always surprises me. Sure, they are a comfort when you're crossing miles of empty ocean but they never seem to be secured when entering congested airspace. Perhaps when designing the cockpit layouts of modern aircraft, it's something that's overlooked as ' all navigation information will be stored electronically' ?

It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.

Wasn't there a case recently of a camera getting caught in the stick of a transport aircraft?

There's no "go-round" in a glider.

I have been able over the years to indulge many a right-hand seat by turning up with a micropore cloth and a bottle of Mr Muscle.
