Saw the lovely sight of a smoking B-52 presumably downwind for Fairford to the west of Oxford this morning about 08:30. Anybody know which one it is?

Page 2 of this thread:graham luxton wrote:60-0002 certainly hasn't visited the UK since 1965 and I'd not seen it before. The "spotting" situation prior to 1965 was such that it may have visited and slipped through the net as weekday reports covering the English SAC bases were, in some cases, virtually non - existant! Weekends were another matter though and there was better coverage particularly when B-52's started making regular weekend visits from late '63 at Brize Norton, Fairford, Upper Heyford and Greenham Common.

If you read onto page 5 of the the same thread, you'll see that it hasn't been over here and the info on page 2 is incorrect due to someone mis-logging it in 1999

Ah OK - apologies to all for the misleading post. I was reading the thread at work on and off yesterday and must have missed the crucial amendment.

Tomorrow might see some activity. A single altitude like that has been used by bombers (among other) usually without tanker support viewtopic.php?f=139&t=147004

Not sure if the confusion has been cleared up, but 61-0002 has been to Fairford before whereas 60-0002 hasn't.

To confirm the three B52s at Fairford are 60-0002 "Spirit of Bossier and Shreveport" and "Lets Roll" marked 2BW with a green fin stripe, 61-0020 "The Big Stick" marked 20BS and a Blue fin stripe and 60-0021 "Blackjack" with a red fin stripe

I was about to post a question about when people think we might see our AFGSC friends again - it seems now we know.
