The Friday night / Saturday morning storm floated over Colchester around 1am, it stayed around for an hour at least and produced some of the most spectacular C2G I've seen for a long time!

Thunderstorm warnings for Southampton, Heathrow & Luton up to 0100Z [Friday], nothing for Bournemouth or Brize, so they may well miss out !

There are some very lively storms heading this way! They fired up late last night over northern France & The Bay of Biscay & quickly grew in size, they also are very slow moving. We could be in for a battering later  .

Looks like just landed at Eastbourne, can't see much flying there today if the storm from the channel carries on its slow course

TankBuster, that's a fascinating link. Real-time it looks like it's creeping up to sea area Dover.

Just had a look at TankBuster's link again, there's a lively cell (!) over Montpellier just now. Unfortunately I don't have a home computer; I'd liked to have seen what was going on around the edges of the Lake District last night. There was lightning way to the West of Kendal, but no thunder- it could have been over the Irish Sea.

None forecast for our area today but this still happened.

http://www.greatyarmouthmercury.co.uk/n ... _1_4494093

It's only a couple of miles away and by god did it make us jump !
Hopefully no serious injuries, a good friend lives a couple of doors away, they've all been evacuated until Gas and Electric checked out.
We had storms yesterday evening as well, they weren't forecast for our area either.

Last year at about 8 or 9 in the morning a single 'bolt' struck a tower crane at the local hospital.
No storm, no other strikes, a bolt from the blue as they say.
I did hear that the crane operator was on the ladder at the time, but I don't know how true that is.

Be safe everyone.

Not over here (yet?) but there're storms all over Europe according to "Lightningmaps" with a humdinger over N. E. France:- been unable to count the number of lightning strikes per minute or even seconds, there's that many.
Roger in fine, but breezy S. Lakes.
