If you don't like the thought of paying £40, then don't go. I'm sure those that do go will have a great time with unique opportunities.

Dinger.

Couldn't agree more! i'm sure the money raised will be going to a good cause after the over heads are covered. And with the cost of hot rolls and beverages at events across the UK £40 is actually probably pretty cheap!!

Great to have the oppurtunity - Thanks to RAF Coningsby. :clap:
As for the cost - As has been said,if you don`t like it -- Don`t go !!! :grr:

I know some people who spend £40 -- on a meal and a couple of drinks -- lasts a couple of hours :Wow:

Cheers

If what they have planned comes to fruition, it'll be a great night.

In that case, they could do with some lessons from you Phil in openness and communication with the very enthusiasts they expect to attend.

Why are people complaining about the price? Compare it with the price of a ticket to watch 90 minutes of a decent football team or similar for a decent concert. It seems reasonable value. Or are the complainers the same people who ask about the best vantage points OUTSIDE an airshow so that they don't have to pay?

Did you not read the bit where it says it's limited to 50 places?

Should imagine by now that it's sold out, and over subscribed. So £40 not expensive then.

Exactly that is why it is priced like that for the exclusivity

Spot on. If it was free there'd still be people moaning.

It'd be interesting to see a breakdown of their costs though, no?

Labour = no cost
Lighting = no cost
Insurance = no cost
Accommodation for crew = no cost(?)
etc.

So where, exactly, is the money going?

Who cares? I'd be in there like a shot if it wasn't for the fact I'm in Yorkshire with the other half that week. :(

I care, which is why I'm asking? :S

£40 isn't bad in terms of cost - as long as it's worth it. For it to be worth it it needs a good 5 or 6 aircraft, well lit (not with sodium lights!), spaced well and at a decent angle to get a clear background. Even then, on the ASP you're going to struggle because of the HAS complex across the runway. The sun also sets to the west, so if you want a sunset in the background, the aircraft will need to be positioned west of the people, which means you'll be photographing out over the road, in the direction of Newark - light pollution will also begin to play a part as it gets darker.

On the subject of the sunset, it is at 1845 on the 29th September, meaning you have 45 minutes to get in to the base, on to the ramp and shoot every aircraft if you want a "sunset photo" - after all, that is what they are advertising.

So, for those going - enjoy :)

Perhaps a merge is due guys.

Ha funny

Labour = free time given up by RAF and Civil Servants as we will have been working all day then organise this ( or i could put in for overtime!!!! )( which i won't as i enjoy giving to others )
Lighting = portable studio lights being provided by various people ( not just the photo section) so that certain parts of the jets can be lit up if necessary to make moody lighting.
Insurance = a lot for public liability

My response would be as been said if you think £40 is to high dont go pure and simple.

I think it is on the high side, but how often do you get the chance to do this type of thing. The Answer is no often,

You have an "exclusive" opportunity to get on a front line base and you think £40 is dear......
