Humbrol acrylics? Never used them. The main paints for spraying (as I see you have just got an airbrush) is Tamiya, but the best that I find is Vallejo model air, as it is thinned already.

Sorry I can't help with the humbrol.

Oh hang on, quick look on humbrol a website, and it says to thin with water http://www.humbrol.com/hints-and-tips/p ... brol-tips/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Though I'd run a couple of cups of tamiya thiner or similar through after to remove the excess water.

Hi Neil, yes anything with a high alchol content is great. Just remember to clean the airbrush properly - I can help if you need it, just shout via PM!

many thanks for that , I am not sure how the airbrushing is going to go but hay ho we have to start somewhere The sea color scheme is not the easiest to start with but i thought i would start with the tan overall and then do the greens . all the best Neil :thumb:

Neil,
For airbrushing, I use Xtracrylic, Tamiya, Humbrol and use Tamiya thinners for all with no apparent issues! Gave up on using water with Humbrol as i was having issues with it drying in the nozzle. Still happens now and again but never as bad as it used to be.

A big thank u to all the people who have forwarded the advice, just one thing i was thinking about is that despite tamiya thinners being readily available woud it not be cheeper to get some acrylic thinners from a motor factor . just a idea All the best Neil :clap:

Did a quick google and didnt find any results for motor factors on the first page. When i looked on ebay, alarm bells started sounding as the stuff on there was 2 pack stuff!!! Not nice stuff but spraying cars has no doubt changed since i last spoke to someone in the trade!!!!

But in a nutshell, if you weight up the price of 5lt at £20, against £4 for 250ml, i do see a point in buying at the motor factors. However, i have probably only used about 25ml in just over a year of using Tamiya thinners.

As Geoff says, it's worth getting the thinners just for thinning. Then I use other substances for cleaning out the airbrush (Vallejo airbrush cleaner), yes there are other cheaper ways, but I can justify the expense as it looks after my airbrush.
