Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
Just seen this posted on the CAA Website
"The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has approved a request from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to impose a Temporary Airspace Restriction around a large military flypast over Windsor on Saturday 19 May 2012 to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The flypast will comprise two separate aircraft formations – nine Typhoon fighter jets open the event, followed later by a large mixed formation which will include two formations of Tucano and Hawk aircraft; The Red Arrows; and aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. In all there will be a total of 85 aircraft taking part in the flypasts."

Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
Will that be the first mass RAF formation since the 90th Anniversary one at RIAT?
Cheers

Looks like it, but I can't visualise at the moment what aircraft will make up that number.
Also it'll be all of the services, RAF, Navy, Army, BBMF, RNHF, Vulcan ?, Sea Vixen ?

Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
Will this involve the usual form-up over Southwold that flies down the A12 into London?
Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
Rehearsals take place in May using the whole of the Wales MTA, now that should be a sight
Plus i see they have upped the numbers as it was suppose to be 60

Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
Have we got that many Gliders scattered around the country?

Steve.

Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
Cant see it forming up over Southwold as I believe the flypast is over Windsor iirc
Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
Would think that Brize would be where they form up but i could be wrong. There is a large event in london for the Jubilee so it would be a shame if the tax payers didnt get to see this, also is there a balcony at Windsor for her to watch and wave from?
Cheers! Jamie

Here's a map of the restricted airspace for those of you who know more about this type of thing than me;

85 aircraft, Do the RAF even have that many...!
Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
Our Typhoon and Tornado fleet alone has far, far in excess of 85 aircraft , never mind everything else !Radleigh wrote:85 aircraft, Do the RAF even have that many...!

I hope they include the vc-10 and tristar
Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
I hope it's televised, but
a) with commentary from someone who knows what they're talking about, and
b) with camerawork showing the aircraft without swinging around halfway through to show the mug of the 'celebrity' being interviewed at the same time

It was a joke Mike with the current cuts going on in this world.
Would love to see the fly past, but I've got a feeling my new job wouldn't let me.

30 Hawks from 208 & 4 squadron!
Re: Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft
I thought so - 30 hawks just about gives enough to form up into 8 and 5 ! With a couple to spare and a whip ship :-)
