Queens Jubilee Flypast 85 Aircraft

Post by paullangford » Sun Apr 01, 2012 1:46 pm

Just seen this posted on the CAA Website

"The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has approved a request from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to impose a Temporary Airspace Restriction around a large military flypast over Windsor on Saturday 19 May 2012 to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The flypast will comprise two separate aircraft formations – nine Typhoon fighter jets open the event, followed later by a large mixed formation which will include two formations of Tucano and Hawk aircraft; The Red Arrows; and aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. In all there will be a total of 85 aircraft taking part in the flypasts."

Will that be the first mass RAF formation since the 90th Anniversary one at RIAT?
Cheers

Looks like it, but I can't visualise at the moment what aircraft will make up that number.
Also it'll be all of the services, RAF, Navy, Army, BBMF, RNHF, Vulcan ?, Sea Vixen ?

Will this involve the usual form-up over Southwold that flies down the A12 into London?

Would think that Brize would be where they form up but i could be wrong. There is a large event in london for the Jubilee so it would be a shame if the tax payers didnt get to see this, also is there a balcony at Windsor for her to watch and wave from?
Cheers! Jamie

Our Typhoon and Tornado fleet alone has far, far in excess of 85 aircraft , never mind everything else !

I hope it's televised, but
a) with commentary from someone who knows what they're talking about, and
b) with camerawork showing the aircraft without swinging around halfway through to show the mug of the 'celebrity' being interviewed at the same time

It was a joke Mike with the current cuts going on in this world.

Would love to see the fly past, but I've got a feeling my new job wouldn't let me.

I thought so - 30 hawks just about gives enough to form up into 8 and 5 ! With a couple to spare and a whip ship :-)
