Not just helicopters, Chris ;-)
Myself and Olicat have been busy most weekends for several hours late at night formation flying doing tactical sorties.
Here, we are both TDY in the French Alps. Conducting low level sorties with a mix of low level (250-1000ft) and tactical strip landings.
Khe Sahn Approaches were the order of the day here, both doing steep approaches after formation flying. By the time i was half way down the runway, Oli would be in his steep approach too.
Next was pairs take off from a grass strip. Very difficult as the runway was only just long enough, literally.
ZORRO formation
Followed by more formation flying, gunning it around the mountains.... Oli can be seen knife edging it behind me.
Tactical Strip landing now, i am climbing away whilst Oli is in his approach behind
Next was some time back in the UK around Salisbury Plain and to the south around Compton Abbass for some low level formation training.
Crusader Formation of two Squirrels from Middle Wallop
Next and most recent (this weekend just gone...)
PAVE 11 flight was on a CSAR training mission around Dartmoor. After taking on fuel from Eaglescott FARP we headed south to Dartmoor flying low level nap of the earth for a stealthy ingress to the moor.
I provided top cover and guided Oli into the pilots position (simulated).
I am providing top cover to Oli who has landed on a dirt track junction somewhere on Dartmoor for an extraction
Off we go over Burrator Reservoir for our next extraction simulation
We fly most Friday and/or Saturday nights between 23:00 and 02:00 using various helicopters. Each mission is serious whereby i usually have something in mind to keep the formation on its feet. Whether it be C130 (Captain Sim) formation flying and strip landings to various helicopters conducting CSAR, Troop lifts and gun support. Or we just go flying low level in certain parts of the world such as Switzerland, France, Arizona, UK.
Teamspeak 3 is required along with Horizon Gen X 2 scenery with UK2000 VFR airfields.
