Either way is it really important when it was taken?

No it isn't, well not to me anyway, but but people are making a big issue of the photo and it's authenticity so I'm just giving some info on what I know about the day.

The guy who took it lives in Poole, maybe I should just pop round and ask him directly!

I did feel myself getting pulled into my suspicions, but suddenly thought "Am I now speculating myself, something which the press have done in the last few days and annoyed me???" So have ended my trawling of photos and videos, as I do not want to be as bad as them, that and my head hurts from concentrating

I guess, of course, that everyone of us on this site would turn down £20,000 quid in this situation, or even £1,000,000 if that was what was offered. It's not the amount, of course but the principle. Yeah.....right. You really would turn down £1.000,000 if offered.? . It has happened to me re a crash video, and I did turn it down, but I have no idea of the amount that was going to be offered, and I wasn't interested, but then I am not poor in the first place, but you can understand why people would accept this.
As regards Jon Egging's impeccable and highly impressive widow, I have NO DOUBT that she will be extremely well catered for financially by the Government, and, in any case, money is the least of her worries. Not everything comes down to money!!.

I SINCERELY DOUBT that the amount was anything like your suggestion. The guy saw an opportunity and managed to fool the journalist and his editor!

I too hope he passes his inapropriately acquired monies to Flt Lt Eggings widow or a service charity, but I think we know that wont be happening!

I would summise this guy will keep his head down, pity the poor fool if he ever braggs about his woeful moneygrabbing episode!

That's a terrible excuse, other newspapers manage. The media have far greater resources, contacts, weight and access than we do. It also doesn't explain why several papers and TV channels still continued to report the same inaccuracies several days after the event and still do.

In the end, it doesn't really matter. Poor Jon Egging died, for whatever reason, and the reason will eventually be in the public domain.

Of course it matters. We rely on journalists for accurate reporting, not fabrication. Maybe such journalists would be better employed by 'reality' gossip magazines.

But if you want good [ish] reporting, then the last papers you would want to read are TABLOIDS!!!!

The implication being that it's acceptable? Which is what this and the other thread are about.

Criticism hasn't been specifically aimed at tabloids.

A strobe light is powerful and to catch it on a image of any aircraft is down to luck.

Plus the light is switched off on the ground to protect eyes (it's like being "flashed" by a arc welder) and normally put on when the jet enters the runway for take off.

I think the Reds display with them off to (again) protect the eyes of the pilots who fly to the outside of the formation and are looking in towards the Boss. (I could be wrong) but they are switched on during transit

£600 quid, they don't go into the thousands!, and papers ell on all photos to each other anyway so they make a 'double killing', on the subject matter!...
