Yes, as reported on Sky News at 9pm.steve149c wrote:Along these lines, I would assume all T1's will be grounded pending investigation?

On the same report, a statement was read from Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging's wife who was at the show.
Words cannot describe how sad we all feel for her, for Jon's friends and for the rest of the Red Arrows Team.
Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
They were at Fowey (Cornwall) on Thursday evening, and did another great display.
Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me !!

A very tragic end to what I have always understood to be a zenith role in the RAF for the frontline pilots ~ RIP Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging of the Royal Air Force aerobatics team (The Red Arrows)
For the record (sorry if posted already) but the official website pays tribute to him here http://www.raf.mod.uk/reds/teamnews/ind ... 70AC0607A6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and I find it especially sad that his wife was present at the airshow and possibly bore witness to the 'event'

mmm, I wonder was it is then? I was up there most of the day yesterday looking at possible photo locations, didn't see it in any of the usual places or hangars.MRay wrote:That incident was due to a major birdstrike I understand and the airframe involved is still at Blackpool and is unlikely to ever fly again, according to reports elsewhere, it has no bearing on todays tragic loss.GARYKING wrote:Sad Day for all, my thoughs are with the family and collegues.
Don't shoot me for asking, but does anyone know the reg of the lost airframe?
The reason I ask is that I photographed the aircraft Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging Hawk was flying for the Southport airshow last month airside at Blackpool. It was XX260. On the 7th of August the same aircraft flown by Red 7 declaired a 'PAN' then 'MAYDAY' while displaying at the Blackpool airshow due to Fuel and Hydrolic issues.
Gary
RIP RED4
EDIT: a friend just sent me this from last weekend. I'm sure its not at Hangar 3 now.

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
Such a tragic loss of a truly great aviator. An act we sometimes take for granted, but all appreciate the skill and professionalism the guys/girls show. All parties associated with FL Jon Egging can be proud of what he represented and i'm sure they will be really touched by the amount of support/respect/heartfelt condolances people up and down the country and all over the world will be showing tonight and the coming days.
In the midst of the events today i think a little credit should be shown to the rest of the arrows pilots for getting down safely. With them witnessing what happened from the air, the sense of not knowing/shock must have played on their minds. So well done to the rest of the team and our thoughts remain with you and all the family + friends.
May we all raise a glass in your memory.

RED4 - Your skill has thrilled hundreds of thousands but more importantly it has helped in protecting your fellow armed forces colleagues in Afghanistan. We are all very proud of the Red Arrows but what you were doing in Afghanistan makes you a HERO.
Condolences to your family, friends and colleagues - You will not be forgotten.

Heard rumour that there is a suggestion for anyone who is attending Bournemouth airshow tomorrow (Sunday) to wear an item of red clothing as a mark of respect. Have to say i find the prospect of a sea of red on the beach quite touching......
