I think he saw that old video of the Typhoon nearly decking it at RIAT and thought 'looks fun, hold my beer'. :O

Brown trousers
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

My Phantom-pilot pal has just said "I wonder how hard the Nav punched the Pilot!"

I think I read somewhere many years ago:- An F4 Phantom in a 45 degree dive at mach 1 requires a minimum
8,000 ft vertically to level out. True or not I don't know, either way it doesn't leave much wiggleroom.

looks like a planned manoeuvre to me. There’s a substantial dip over the horizon which makes it look far lower than possibly was and he doesn’t appear to power up as if he took evasive action.

Ejecting low level with an old seat and a high rate of descent is not a good idea. Shades of an R.A.F. Phantom at Abingdon years ago, but a better ending!. Most pilots learn by their mistakes... if they're lucky and sensible!!

That's correct, as in a driving lesson emergency stop, when the navigator taps his sunglasses case on the pilot's helmet, he is to dive down as low as possible, scuff the wing tank in the sand. Don't worry as the extra thrust felt through the sphincter will give enough power to rectify the cock up and teach you never do that again!

I seem to remember the Luftwaffe pilots used to pull a similar trick in their Phantom’s

Planned? What airshow director is going to allow a display that gets so low that it almost disappears from view and blows the dust on the ground up into the air?

It's literally in the title and description of the video.
