Are you aware of the 100 Billion USD deal just completed between Taiwan and the USA for the manufacture of semiconductors? As for a (any whatever) deal with China - business is business. Trade is a major contributor to peace and stability all over the world.NorvilleRogers wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 11:48 amNot Sure how the US tech industry will cope with no computer chips if that happens (probably do a deal with China).
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

Re: US pausing Military aid to Ukraine
But Ukraine was a nation state with borders internationally recognised and supported, not least by Russian governments before Putin. At some point a line has to be drawn on the past, all Putin has done is reignited festering issues that were possibly solveable through dialogue and agreement rather than by armed force.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Peace under whose terms?Tally-ho wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 11:12 am1. Trump is President of the USA, what the rest of the world thinks is not applicable.
2. Treaties - trying to undo history in rowing back on several decades of US Presidents, and others, is impossible. We are where we are, the here and now.
The steps to peace have been set out . . one step at a time.
This sounds as fragile as 'peace in our time' the declaration made by Chamberlain
Not peace at any costs please otherwise our children's children and Ukraine's sons and daughters ( if they still exist) will be paying the price not to mention Latvia Estonia even Poland!
Re: US pausing Military aid to Ukraine
Peace under the terms of the two combatants, Russia and Ukraine. To get those two around a table you need enablers, the US is key here, as they have the economic and military muscle to bang heads together. The USA has an oven ready plan, the UK / EU agrees that it is a start, and offers to put boots on the ground.
Talks need to start - a truce / ceasefire followed by a peace deal is the sequence.

I note that Trump’s botox injected pet chihuahua is getting flak for stating that the UK is ‘a random country that hasn’t fought in a war for 30 or 40 years’.
That kind of says it all really.

Two weeks ago I was fortunate to be able to visit the Korean DMZ, I have thought for a while this is how Ukraine will end up. The war does not end, there is a ceasefire and a bunch of blue helmets keeping the two sides away from each other.
Re: US pausing Military aid to Ukraine
Latvia, Estonia and Poland are all NATO countries. Any invasion from Russia would mean WW3 as NATO would have the right to throw everything at the invaders.slogen51 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 12:59 pmPeace under whose terms?

Wrong. Nowhere does he mention country names.

Re: US pausing Military aid to Ukraine
I thought the UK offering boots on the ground was the start of this process. If Zelensky is still arguing that peace is only possible when there is a return to its pre 2014 borders i.e. they get Crimea back then I can see why Trump is “unhappy” as that’s unlikely to happen.STN RAMP RAT wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:09 pmTwo weeks ago I was fortunate to be able to visit the Korean DMZ, I have thought for a while this is how Ukraine will end up. Re: US pausing Military aid to Ukraine
The boots on the ground offer is subject to the USA giving a security guarantee. No guarantee will probably mean no boots.

Just give the yanks notice to quit, like France did in 1966.
Remove all military bases, personnel &equipment from Europe within say three months, cancel all contracts for American military equipment and start building our own. We have the capability, but not the political will.
Like tricky dickie once said “when you’ve got them by the balls their hearts and minds will follow”
Time for Europe to man up, but I suspect it will never happen.

Re: US pausing Military aid to Ukraine
Hasn't some British General said we couldn't possibly spare the troops?

Now that's an idea....atech wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 2:14 pmJust give the yanks notice to quit, like France did in 1996.

Edit:
Its a hell of a thing to say that your allies who unconditionally followed you into two wars and lost lives doing so and who you abandoned without warning in Afghanistan are 'random countries'.
I think he's deliberately trying to shock to make our government do something.... any other suggestions?

Yes, Trump is a shallow narcissist who is only interested in what is in it for himself

But remember, President Chump is the guy who stood in a cemetery for US servicemen in France and described those who gave their lives as 'losers' and 'suckers'. He displays one of the common traits of all narcissists and megalomaniacs, namely a very high degree of emotional detachment from mere mortals; and from today's headlines, it sounds like JDV is going the same way. God help us all.cat1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 2:22 pmEdit:

I'm attempting to be more unbiased, so in that spirit
you claim above is shockingly absolutely correct

Well, at least 2025 will be interesting

He also carries a lot of the traits seen in the Hare Psychopathy Checklist. I'm sure I read somewhere that he scored 90%.mustang5861 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 3:42 pmHe displays one of the common traits of all narcissists and megalomaniacs, namely a very high degree of emotional detachment from mere mortals
