RAF Kirknewton
RAF Kirknewton
I know this is home to the volunteer 661 glider squadron, but does it actually see any activity? As far as I'm aware, it's still operational.
Well that's PLANE to see!
Re: RAF Kirknewton
Yes, can confirm Gliders have been airborne from Kirknewton, as recently as within the last few Months.
Re: RAF Kirknewton
I haven't seen them as such, but my PlanePlotter ADSB radio has picked them up quite often over the summer

We operate every weekend (weather permitting) with a few week-long camps during the year. Currently 4x Viking TX.1s on the unit for the summer season (ZE495, ZE602, ZE625 & ZE528).
Re: RAF Kirknewton
Thanks for the reply! Oddly enough I'm just down the road from the location, and have seen some gliding activities recently!
Well that's PLANE to see!
Re: RAF Kirknewton
Not sure if this is Military as such - just had a text from a friend saying he spotted a Biplane flying around Kirknewton airfield not long ago. He'd done some further investigation & came across some information regarding a rebuild & trial flight(s) of a Sopwith Strutter & suspects this is what he saw.
Might be of interest to some.

Re: RAF Kirknewton
Would/ Might that be the Sopwith Strutter which has been rebuilt in East Lothian somewhere? Might they be using Kirknewton and/ or part of East Fortune for test flights? Interesting to find out?
