Lossie 78-79 Hunter visitors.

Post by toom317 » Mon Sep 16, 2024 7:11 pm

I'll be doing 2 posts featuring Hunters, this one of visiting aircraft and another for aircraft at 2TWU.

The Hunter XL603 T8M was up with a Harrier T4 and has the nose and radar for a Sea Harrier FRS1.

It's actually red or a dark red paint on that aircraft. Corgi did a die cast model of that particular aircraft. As far as I know it was the only one painted that way and I was told it was used by instructors as means of identification when they jumped students during training sorties. I say the only one painted that way, but my ancient brain cell has been churning over and there may have been another Hunter painted similarly, but with yellow paint, perhaps someone may know.

Thanks Toom, I do recall the Corgi model of XF418 now you've jogged my memory and the red markings would make sense in it's role.

Fantastic!
I've always loved hunters since I saw them at Bournemouth Hurn with the FRADU when they replaced the also much loved Scimitars and Meteors.
Thanks for sharing your superb captures
Best regards, Terry
