Tiger Meet Spotterday + outside for Elephant walk & Taxi

Post by Lamboali » Fri Oct 06, 2023 9:26 pm

Todays Spotters day gave us access to todays mission with a launch & recovery of approx 68 aircraft & helicopters. After the mission there was an elephant walk of approx 40 aircraft. I chose to go outside and photograph over the fence to get some formations and most of the aircraft leaving the runway. This selection again is mainly the Tiger coloured ones.

Thanks for sharing these with us, the Tiger Meet is always something special and some of the schemes are superb. Hard to pick a favourite, but nice to see the Hawkeye at the end.

Awesome

I wasn't going to bother with this year's edition but seeing your photos from the wrong side of the fence has encouraged me to book a Ryanair flight to Bari for Tuesday back Thursday - just my luck if it rains or i have a run in with the Carabinieri 😅

Stunning! Oh for the UK to resurrect 74 Sq so that we could participate and, more hopefully, host such an event!

Another amazing set of images. :thumb: Following-on from my previous query on your other posting regarding on-base access, I see you appear to have shot the 'Spotter Day' on-base shots from a very low viewpoint. Was this to avoid a dodgy background or because the runway is much higher than where you were stood? Great results either way!
Correct decision to go outside for the 'Walk' & taxi-back shots. Superb collection! Can you actually shoot over the fence without a ladder?.... & without getting attention from Security for 'into base images' ?

Yes we went as far as we could right at the Spotter day, firstly we knew from being outside that it was rotation point and yes the runway was much higher which meant no clutter in the background. It’s not every day you can shoot low with just sky in the background.
You can shoot though the fence but not over it without a ladder, we went and bought steps as you only needed 3 steps to get between the wire or over it at midpoint for landings. Security didn’t have an issue around the Spotter Day or yesterday. Not sure it would be the same on a normal day as there are no photography signs on the fence.

Thank-you for the detailed reply Ali. I've been really impressed with your off-base shots especially & realise this event is one I should've attended! :'(
Great Recon' experience in the preceding days before the Spotter's Day allowed you to choose the right location on-base..... & bail in time for the 'Walk'. ;)
Great preparation leading to a superb collection of images....as usual! :thumb:

The RAF probably wouldn't even bother marking any of their aircraft up anyway, there's no esprit de corps with them these days. :(
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

Just to illustrate Ali's words.

These are numbers of aircraft you only can dream of. Like your other pictures the aircraft are truly nicely captured.
