For the first time the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will participate with seven CF-188 Hornets, operating from RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire. The air arm will also be sending a CC-150T Polaris, this air-to-air refuelling-capable Airbus A310 is also to fly from Waddington

Sorry if I've missed it, just had a quick look through the read. Has the start date been confirmed as 4th or 11th yet please?

Re: Cobra Warrior 23-2
The Exercise runs from 4th to 22nd September, so expect support and arrival of participants last week of August.
For the first time night flying will form part of the Exercise, and this will take place in the third week.

Everyone at Mildenhall who lives there is used to it now. Be interesting to see how many Norwegian’s show.

Re: Cobra Warrior 23-2
Does that mean week three is a bit of a write-off from a photography point of view, with sunset being about 7pm around then? Or will there likely still be some daytime flying?

Re: Cobra Warrior 23-2
Looking forward to seeing some CF-188 Hornets (why do they do that!?)
Anything due at Coningsby for Cobra warrior 23-2 ?
(Why is it called Cobra Warrior? I assumed because of the Indian connection but I was reminded that it maybe down to a connection with 92 Squadron? )

Re: Cobra Warrior 23-2
The ex is ran by 92 sqd who are based at Waddo.
Nothing for Coningsby this time round - or at least no rumours of anything at CBY this time round.

I've always been genuinely curious about this, and done some digging, though all I could find is this - https://aerospaceweb.org/~aerospa1/ques ... %20trainer.
It seems in Canada they are commonly referred to as CF-18 Hornets, though the above gives some explanation.

Re: Cobra Warrior 23-2
That clears that up . Thanks.
I am sure we all remember RAF 92 Sqn phantoms with the cobra badge - I did see some on a visit to Coningsby I believe although nostalgia is marked by the number of people at the '66 Final - everyone was there apparently!

'Canada uses a designation scheme that is essentially identical to that used by the US, though it is simplified. The designation consists of the letter "C" for Canada, a letter to indicate the aircraft's role, a dash, and a number. The number is also sometimes followed by a letter to indicate a modification. Common letters include "A" for a modified version and "D" for a dual-control trainer.'
Notice the dash is part of the designation - I don't bang on about it but I wish we would all say F-15E rather than F15 or F-16 rather than F16 etc it just looks more professional or polished.

As long as the CC150 isn’t 15003 I’m happy
