Couple of days at Lakenheath.

Post by gary1701 » Sat Mar 26, 2022 11:38 am

Hi gents,

I know there's been a load of Lakenheath from the fine weather in the last week or so but here's my contribution from Wednesday and Thursday. 06 was the order of the day for Wednesday and I was hoping for some of the banks and quick climbs from the few days before. With one exception, nobody seemed interested, the F-16s keeping high and level, the F-35s were also flat and mostly high.

Thankfully we still had the Reapers.

Valkyrie's were a disappointment considering what I'd seen from last week, especially the Friday which was a day I originally attempted to get off work!

This one was low but no climb.

The Aviano's were pretty much not worth putting a camera on, although the D model was up for some circuits when he came back on one of his short rides.

Two flights of 4th FW jets returned from out East but with Lakenheath being 06 opportunities were going to be lacking unless they pulled some overshoots. Luckily Siege 75 had the idea.

So back the following morning, to find the base surprisingly working 24 and everybody doing a quick climb today at the 06 end - obviously!

This guy was a early misty arrival.

It may be a little, but some colour has appeared!

Despite it still being quite misty todays returns were more spirted. 'Hang Tough' from the driver of the 48th FW jet.

Little detail I noticed, '74 was the only jet from the first batch that I photographed this week, and when I shot it in early February it had the usual name presented on the nose wheel door, now gone. Either the 495th is rotating pilots already or maybe they're all going to go green.

Not sure what the green badge is as I never got a close up.

Former Sqn flagship.

Nice curved approach from the last one in.

Looks like the 4th FW have been busy with the paint as well.

HI Gary . A nice set of pictures there . Did you manage to get a more detailed shot of the artwork on 87 187 SJ ?
It looks as though the middle part is made up of the flags of the countries that it has visited on this deployment . This frame was one of the 6 that went to Estonia.

Nice shots Gary. Great to see some of the SJ artwork at last - with them using 06 so much of the time recently its been difficult to photograph it! Hopefully the 494th will return in due course similarly decorated!

Gents,

Thanks for the kind words. This is the best I can do with 87-0187. It's only a blow up of a existing frame. If they'd thrown in a circuit I would have moved in closer for the second shot. I reckon you're on the money with the flags looking at that.
