little log from the netherland stork flight

284.675 swanwick
308.000 airrefueling
241.450 fairford a/a
242.650 copenhagen
268.650 skylight with moonbeam and stork
309.800 satcom storks
138.275 denmark qra moonbeam
excellent post...

curious about 309.800, I take it that's over the horizon UHF (AM) comms?

309.800 is satcoms / encrypted you will hear nothing
Just to prod, do you mean literally nothing (meaning spread spectrum used) or will you hear encrypted tx's?

Do we have any ideas where they are at the moment? Are they still out or have they landed at SP? Thanks in advance

Tracking out NE over the Wash
out of interest, what's the Europe coverage like?

We're all sitting here to see if they end up in Germany, where planeplotter probably has eyes on where they are

Don't strangle the Parrot ! :ninja:

These chaps are operating Mode A/C only.

We can give a good idea of where they are and in fact minute by minute tracking via PP as they return , but key to all this is the sqwk in use.

As the sorties progress the radio traffic will no doubt reduce , and may well be limited to brief comms as they pass between agencies
and are given new Sqwk details , so if that information can be posted , we should be able to help , especially as the flight comes back west and across the North sea.

Be interesting to see if they return via SKEGI and take the same routing as Black 1 back to the field.

STRANGLE is NATO brevity for "witch off equipment indicated".
PARROT is NATO brevity for "a military IFF transponder".

Thus to "STRANGLE the PARROT" is to turn off your IFF transponder. Depending on the aircraft this may also turn off Modes A, C or S!

On other news it's being reported on the PCB Facebook group that the B-1s will be back this afternoon.

When a time is posted I really wish people would state Zulu or Local. It would really help.
Preferably Zulu. Everyone on same page then.

As they have stated the runway is open until late tonight, can we maybe presume that there may be some more action tonight? It's unusual that they run that late on the NOTAM unless something else is happening isn't it?
I'm quite a new spotter and still learning, so apologies if that's a silly question.

Yes definitely, it literally means anything could happen up until 2300L.

If aircraft return you'll sometimes find the notam will go down if nothing is going to happen after that.
