Turnhouse Airshow 27th June '70

Post by eLaReF » Mon Sep 02, 2019 6:42 pm

If you could call it that!

I mentioned this ‘show’ on the Leuchars ’69 topic.
It almost wasn’t a show since much of the flying side of things was cancelled due to the ‘dreich’ weather (Think cold, damp, misty, damp, soaking, cold, wet) Note the almost total lack of any backgrounds!

These are all the pics I have, I think!

Funnily enough, I went to East Fortune last week and got a colour shot of this Meteor. It was so common in the 60’s, flying for the FFU that it tended NOT to get film used on it………..

So much for Flaming June. That looks wetter than an otter's pocket! Worth it for that beautiful Britannia tho' - one of the few types I never got to photograph.

Hi eLaRef

I am piecing together my old logs and came across your shot of the Ferranti Meteor at Edinburgh Air Show. From the image it looks like it could be my father, young brother and myself (aged 10 in shorts!) just under and to left of meteor tail). I was wondering whether you had any higher resolution image to check this and I'd be interested in buying if it is us!

I am also after a full log of the show which I haven't managed to find yet on t'internet!

I have an 8,000 pixel wide original so PM me an email address and will email you a dropbox link (It's a 32Mb file)
But zooming in, it doesn't get a lot better!
My camera wasn't the best thing in life in those days - a Fixed 40mm Rangefinder thingy

That looks very similar to my old Halina Paulette Electric rangefinder, which had a similar lens

Britannia!. Wonderful shots.T and I buried a very dear friend in May, who went from being a cook on a tramp steamer, to a fighter pilot flying Meteors, Javelins etc. He then went to Transport Command and flew every one of the R.A.F machines. He went EVERYWHERE!. I have a photograph of him and his crew with President Kaunda of Zambia in one of my rooms. We flew on a couple of civilian ones, including the Duxford one. Lovely aircraft. Rather better looking than Northrops  Sorry, Patrick!. Regards, John.

Thanks ElaRef I have sent you a PM - I think. Messaging facility seemed a little clunky so not sure if it went!
