Was it not in 2018 they flew the drone into Fairford for RIAT?reaper493 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 10:17 amThey've already got the equipment at Waddo to fly drones, just depends if they need specific kit to operate this one.
They may end up flying it in, as per RIAT 2019 that seem's so long ago.
Either way, I think it may be hush hush for it's arrival to prevent protestors, although I'm sure they will show their faces at some point.

Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
No problem I only remember as I was standing in the field where I camp hoping it was going to land on runway 27 like most of the aircraft that day but they gave the drone pilot the option of which runway he would like and he chose 09 just my luck

Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
I did wonder if the C17 that came in not too long ago has anything to do with the impending arrival?
Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
thats what i thought Mike considering from were i came from.
EDIT as a matter of fact it was a week today when the C17 arrived from Souda Bay, just a thought but a RAF C17 would cause less suspicious than a USA one considering what it may have had onboard.

Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
that explains that then i did notice an E3 going way down east last week not sure were to think it was ZH103?

Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
Protestors outside the northern entrance on High Dyke this morning, RAF and civil police were there.
Very peaceful, a few signs and a flag, about 6/7 of them.

Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
guess they have nothing better to do on a weekend, no signs of any arrival they must know what we dont?

Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
Hmm. Just because they choose to peacefully protest doesn't mean that they have nothing better to do. I don't see much wrong with a peaceful protest if their views of life aren't the same as ours. At least one can exercise one's democratic right, unlike in Belarus!!.
Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
yes and we have all seen or have we? these so called peace protesters/ anti vaccine anti lockdown and Brexit etc etc and just look how Peacefull they where, the police have better things to do.

Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
When I drove past 3/4hrs later they'd all gone.
See what happens over the following week or two.

Baz. You are tarring every protestor with the same brush. Too simplistic.
Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
Looks like the first planned flight is going to be Monday, someone has posted this in the wave group.
Apparently this is an email sent to interested stake holders, I believe the chap fly's from a local strip so would make sense he's a stakeholders.
I was originally told the first flights were planned for this weekend so will see what happens.
MoD have announced "the first activity of MALE RPAS, SkyGuardian at RAF Waddington is likely to be around 20th August , with the flying activity switching to RAF Lossiemouth around 10th September.
Minimal flying activity on Monday 23rd August, with perhaps activation of the TDA at RAF Waddington to just 3300 FT AMSL and full activation of it to FL100 from Tuesday 24th August onwards."
This suggests it would arrive in next few days, if not here already. First suggestions from 'the powers that be' were that it would be airlifted in, so may have been already to Mildenhall and be road-transported up here, for assembly.

Re: Sky Guardian to Waddo
I think a safe 'corridor' would be needed to fly it from MH to Waddo, like when it came to RIAT, there was a clear corridor from the west.
Plus it would need a ground station at MH and Waddo I think, unless things have moved on, and you can now land/take off from another location. It used to be that a ground station needed to be at the operating base to control the drone on take off and landing.

Come on buddy, stick with the aircraft, let's keep your politics out of it..please! The site is *much* better without it.
