Lossiemouth 1977-79
Lossiemouth 1977-79
Hello All. Some pics from Lossiemouth in the late 1970s. There were no dates on the slide mounts but I was able to narrow some of them down by referring to my only surviving notebook from that time.

Thanks again for excellent nostalgia fix Terry. Remember the OV-10 Bronco's staging through.
Always liked the Buccaneers of 809 NAS.

Viewing threads like these makes some of us realise that having seen all these old aircraft flying reminds me of one of the few pleasures of being old. Many thanks. John [78yrs]. Thankyou.
Re: Lossiemouth 1977-79
Now that's what I'm talking about! What a selection, many thanks for sharing (and more please!). Has to be the OV10s passing Heyford swingers for me.
Re: Lossiemouth 1977-79
Thanks for all the kind comments guys.
Happy memories but maybe a wee bit hazy, due to using Kodak Ektachrome 200 at the time. Fortunately a short time!
I always liked the Bronco. I remember seeing some of the German ones staging through on delivery, most in green primer. Alas, no pics of them. I have pics of USMC ones going into Kinloss back in the 90s. Must look them out sometime.

Love them all but the EL A-7s do it for me especially with the wrap around camo. The rest aren't bad either. Keep up the great work.

Proper WR&N shots there

Great stuff, certainly the best days of this hobby,
Out of interest is that a line of A-7’s parked up on ‘B’Hard, behind the OV-10?

Re: Lossiemouth 1977-79
Well spotted! They are indeed 23TFW A-7s.
Re: Lossiemouth 1977-79
Great post again TC. There's a couple of notable things there I missed. The NASA Herk being one and I never even knew there had been a RAN Tracker at Lossie. Must've been summer 1976 since that was year IAT at Greenham Common had all the Australian Navy stuff off HMAS Melbourne.
Re: Lossiemouth 1977-79
All good, esp the Navy Brick (built to last in Yorkshire).
Re: Lossiemouth 1977-79
Another excellent trip down memory lane Terry.
The Bronco arrived with 14652 on 08/10/77 so your pic was probably taken on the 9th on departure.
The VC-140 was on the 7th.
I remember the dose of Germany Buccaneers and Jaguars for that fighter meet. Funny thing memory. I was convinced there were a couple of 'HL' F-16s there but obviously that was at a later meet.

Re: Lossiemouth 1977-79
I was there on 06/10/77 and all 10 23 TFW A-7s were parked next to the tower and the tops of 3(?) of their tails can be seen behind the OV-10, the 6 x UH F1-11Es were parked were VASS is now and the 12 x 12 & 208 sqn Buccs from Honington were parked over on the 226 OCU apron.
Wonderful shots and thanks for posting them, LM47.

Summer ‘77 I think. It was the Queen’s silver jubilee and a tiger meet at Greenham.Jabba wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 9:42 amGreat post again TC. There's a couple of notable things there I missed.
