Actually it is a good question especially relevant to the working spotter.

I only have a stupid answer in that someone will have to go and have a look but my guess is that they will be in the so called flow through or sun shelters which are visible with care from the road.

Still waiting for the when are they leaving question :) and then there is the inevitable Mach loop theory.
You left one out Slogen, when are they transferring to HMSQE. As Boris would say, a very important question :thumb:
Isn't the base NOTAMed as open tomorrow morning from 10 - 11.30? Long enough to get the aircraft away to the ship? (Not sure where the ship is - at sea, in the port etc).

Marham NOTAMED open Sunday 0800-1000 also.

Ship sails at 1530 on Monday, so neither of these NOTAMs are to reposition the jets over the weekend. I imagine one of them will be for departure of the KC-130J that is currently halfway across the Atlantic on it's way into Marham. But I may be wrong.

https://twitter.com/HMSQNLZ/status/1301775183322263552 The jets won't be joining the HMS QE until later in the month and I have read elsewhere that the USMC have a 10 day workup period first anyway.

Log 4/9 between 1500/1700hrs

8 Marines read in shelters, possibly more there but couldn't see the whole rack.
1st rack from left
CF00, 06, 04, 07, 01
2nd rack from left
CF02, 09, 25 plus at least one more, just see the nose.
3rd rack empty
4th rack
ZM149

ZM152 flew
ZM151 outside HAS near first rack.

While not being familiar with the current state of Marham having not visited in an age; when referring to Shelters do you mean HASs or Sun-Shelters? If the later, are these like the sun-barns that are quite common in the US now?

Buster, I'm sure more are thinking this but I'll be the first to ask the million-dollar question; Where did you read these from?

To see into the barns/sun shelters you need to find somewhere to park and walk along the A1122, between the new South side gate and the lay-by at the top of the hill.

Careful though it is almost as perilous as the A1065.

As I was leaving at 8pm last night I saw an intrepid spotter taking his life into his hands!

OK thanks Trev - I know exactly where you mean, and you're right. it's a FAST road! Do we know if the farmer has a view about walking along the edge of the field on the opposite side of the hedge? Strikes me as a lot safer if that was a possibility? Having avoided death medically once again it would seem churlish to get squished outside an airfield, although presumably that will be the way it ends eventually!

Since the rattlers at Chandler didn't get me, something's got to give in the end!

(Sorry, hugely off topic!)

Go at the weekend or in the evening when the road is quieter. An evening visit will also put the sun behind you, that’s assuming that it’s out lol. I will be doing so for CF00 if I can’t make a day visit to catch them flying.

Thanks Mark. It might have to be next weekend, an evening sounds good but the 4-hour drive home dampens my enthusiasm for that a little!

Hi Stuart
Looking at the Thunder and Lightning spotting site map which is out of date as is google earth and google maps
presumably the South Gate translates to point G on the map and then you walk towards point H

I see someone has already answered, I parked at the top of the hill and walked down.
If it helps, I walked on the opposite side of the road from the base, much safer seeing the vehicles coming at you!

Crossed over once the first ones came into view.

Pretty much I think - White Lane referenced as point G used to be accessible, I've read Tornadoes outside HAS's from there before, not sure if the new gate has limited access now?

With credit to Paul Williamson on MSF;

The Drive-through shelters the F-35s operate from are at: 52.638676 0.537346

Park at field entrance at: 52.634442 0.540727 or

Hill overlooking 06 threshold at: 52.633287 0.526572

You can see (and read some of) the aircraft from the A1122 between these points, but beware of the traffic as it is pretty fast moving and drivers are often “rubber-necking” the airfield rather than expecting pedestrians. For catching the flying, normal operations are on runway 24, best place to park is at: 52.658676 0.579762
