14:30 there is someone in the caravan doing radio checks - exciting!
14:48 I think the caravan at the 24 end is empty , the little car has driven off - does not bode well for the interim period up to the mazda arrival

Re: USMC F-35 September 2020?
Actually it is a good question especially relevant to the working spotter.
I only have a stupid answer in that someone will have to go and have a look but my guess is that they will be in the so called flow through or sun shelters which are visible with care from the road.
Still waiting for the when are they leaving question and then there is the inevitable Mach loop theory.
Re: USMC F-35 September 2020?
Cheers slogen51 great info as always. Missed them due to the slip so another 400mile round trip required

You left one out Slogen, when are they transferring to HMSQE. As Boris would say, a very important questionslogen51 wrote: βThu Sep 03, 2020 9:07 pmActually it is a good question especially relevant to the working spotter.

Since my last Marham visit was some time ago (think I've been twice since the Saudi Tornadoes dropped in in 2007!), things have changed quite a bit! I've figured out that the sun shelters are on the South side near the Southerly has complex, where is best to view from? The layby at the top of the hill? And where do they hangar the F35s? On the main Northerly site?

Re: USMC F-35 September 2020?
Just drove past the south side ( without stopping) and I could not see any F-35.
The sun shelters are a new complex on the west end of the south side. People ( not me as I hang at the EOR) have read off F-35 from the road a little down from the hill you mentioned. As far as I know there are not any F-35 north side except for paint or maintenance?
The USMC are coded on the tails like the RAF so if you see one you will be able to identify it - the problem is seeing them on the deck. They should fly well as they have come a long way to do so.
Actually, although I visit Marham quite often I still don't know if the aircraft are in HAS or hangared or a bit of both!

Re: USMC F-35 September 2020?
Thanks Mike,
That's sort of what I thought. I guess the option would be to park somewhere in the vicinity of that layby and walk down the road to see what is viewable. The reason I asked about Northside is that there is clearly an F35 that side on Google Maps/Earth, but that's an old image as the Southside facility is still being built!
I think some exploring may be in order at some point!
thanks for the info

Is this layby on the A1122 (Swaffham Road) near the runway 06 end? A long time since I have been there. Thanks.sschofield wrote: βFri Sep 04, 2020 9:31 amThanks Mike,

Re: USMC F-35 September 2020?
Yes - The Thunder and Lightnings site suggests it is reduced in size compared to what it used to be, but there should still be room for a few cars. There's also some hardstanding on the minor road just to the SW that accommodates quite a few cars, or at least did last time I was there!
Re: USMC F-35 September 2020?
Isn't the base NOTAMed as open tomorrow morning from 10 - 11.30? Long enough to get the aircraft away to the ship? (Not sure where the ship is - at sea, in the port etc).plmc135 wrote: βFri Sep 04, 2020 7:43 amYou left one out Slogen, when are they transferring to HMSQE. Ship is berthed in Portsmouth harbour right now - There was footage of Merlins landing on deck yesterday afternoon.Phoon wrote: βFri Sep 04, 2020 11:32 amIsn't the base NOTAMed as open tomorrow morning from 10 - 11.30?
