I am assuming then that Duxford has its basic airshow equipment stored on site and can set up with reasonably short notice, compared to other shows which have to transport everything in.

John 'flightpath'.
Equipment
Canon EOS 750D

Sigma APO OS DG 150-500mm
Canon 55-250 IS STM Lens
Sigma APO DG 70-300 lens

Flying legends at Duxford is no more....

Post by reaper493 » Tue Aug 25, 2020 7:28 am

Looks as though 2019 was the last one....

That is a big shock.
A message from Nick Grey

Dear Friends of Flying Legends,
I look at this and the years gone by with immense gratitude for all the wonderful moments we have lived with you our faithful and fanatical community. It is with a heavy heart that we confirm 2019 was the final Flying Legends with our friends at IWM Duxford. We truly hope that our team will find an alternative location to welcome this iconic event and that we will have the privilege of seeing you all again. Thank you for your support and kindness.

Yours sincerely Nick
Taken from Facebook.

I hope they find somewhere else to host, not sure anywhere else would give the same atmosphere though

Wonder what the reasons behind this are?

Mike

Clearly, TFC/ Nick Grey are getting in the way of IWM designs for some misguided cunning plan to make more/some money? Perhaps a bigger Hotel development, retaining more opportunities to run their own events, undercover display building for the Victor & Shackleton, more on-site parking?... who can tell the inner workings of a marketing expert?
Now the subject is out in the Public domain, one might reasonably expect a timely 'here's one I did earlier' statement from IWM?

It does say Supra that the aircraft will be remaining at Duxford, so no extra land/space will be available.
Just that the 2 say show will have to move.

Maybe it’s all the safety regulations and cost rising after the Shoreham disaster, and added to that the uncertainty with corona/cost involved in organising corona-proof events? I can imagine those cost and investments might be too much of a financial risk for them. For the IWM, museum is their core business, airshows just a source for extra income. If the risk of losing money is too high, choices have to be made

So it isn't necessarily the end of the road for Legends then? Just (hopefully) an alternative venue, where ever that will be? :)

What a shame. especially for those of us living near Duxford. Whatever happens in the future, we all owe the Grey famiy and everyone connected with The Fighter Collection, a huge vote of thanks for the many years of entertainment that was provided. Many happy days, and a couple full of extreme sadness. Best wishes to all, and let's hope a solution is found.
