Don't believe what you read, it's just poo-stirring. Unfortunately that's what happens when you PFI something, the consultancy fees are bigger than the costs to do the darn work! Unless proved otherwise, it was all in the original costs.Alf wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 10:06 amSome newspapers are saying a large part of the cost was the fee paid to the design company the Gov employed to come up with the livery.lardyboy999 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 10:04 amAye, I think there were still some significant upgrades to what was already on Board as part of the scheduled maintenance/refit though. Newspapers are spot on, the £900,000 covers the design, development and application of the paint scheme, nothing else, no servicing, no VIP interior fitment, that was already onboard.lardyboy999 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 10:10 amDon't believe what you read, it's just poo-stirring. Thanks, Tony, I know you're a pretty good source for info, but unless that's from the horse's mouth, I'll reserve judgement. If that is true, then I was very probably right on the consultancy fees for the design, as it certainly doesn't cost that much to paint the jet. Some newspapers are saying a large part of the cost was the fee paid to the design company the Gov employed to come up with the livery.

Simply not true, design was done in-house.

See post by acw367. This is Operation Crimson Ocean, started 10th June apparently.
Both links well worth reading and viewing some cracking good images. Of course, to be able to capture such shots a back seat trip in a Hawk is required.

Re: RRR622 Voyager ZZ336 (new paint scheme)
ZM135 was up from Marham and with ZZ336 about an hour ago. Was replaced by Typhoon ZJ935 (Fang0012) down from Lossie and which I believe is still with ZZ336 over the North Sea.
Re: RRR622 Voyager ZZ336 (new paint scheme)
ZM135 is still in America so won't have been that one, 135 near enough always shows as the F35 up on certain apps.
F35 launched from the Carrier, not Marham.

I thought it had been doing a lot of flying recently!
Re: RRR622 Voyager ZZ336 (new paint scheme)
Slightly off piste, has any of the F-35 pilots adopted “Greased” as their callsign?

From the RAF's own press release: "Design work was performed by AirTanker Limited and Airbus DS (the Design Organisation for Voyager) from February 2020 to May 2020. Repainting the aircraft was conducted by the Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group at their facility in Cambridge in June 2020."lardyboy999 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 10:49 amThanks, Tony, I know you're a pretty good source for info, but unless that's from the horse's mouth, I'll reserve judgement. Agreed, but as far as I'm aware, all within the original costs under the SDR.TonyO wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 1:21 pmFrom the RAF's own press release: "Design work was performed by AirTanker Limited and Airbus DS (the Design Organisation for Voyager) from February 2020 to May 2020. Re: RRR622 Voyager ZZ336 (new paint scheme)
First impressions not bad at all. Agree with other comments....serial a bit too large and 'stuck on' and the roundels a bit small but that's just nitpicking. Very welcome addition to the (semi) mil fleet.... and it's got to be better than GRRREEEEYYY!
Re: RRR622 Voyager ZZ336 (new paint scheme)
The paint job is necessary. I once was on a military aircraft that almost had to divert to a large national airport in a capital city. Thankfully we didn’t, and afterwards we learned that the country in question were glad as a military marked aircraft wasn’t overly welcome at their airport.
Re: RRR622 Voyager ZZ336 (new paint scheme)
You were lucky, I got diverted once to Cardiff in a Herk, it was the same day they sat the vc10 on its backend at Brize and lyneham was shrouded in fog.ColintheCaterpillar wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 6:51 pmThe paint job is necessary.
