Imagine its very windy at Fairford not ideal when you have a 103ft wingspan. Does anyone remember when a u2 pilot ejected into the fence?

If you mean the very sad events of 1995, there are details here:633 squadron wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 3:10 pmImagine its very windy at Fairford not ideal when you have a 103ft wingspan. Does anyone remember when a u2 pilot ejected into the fence?

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Re: NOTAM 10-02-2020
I wasn't there on the day but visited a couple of days after the accident which happened at 0633Z on the 29th Aug'95. The wreckage of U-2R, 68-10338 was in the field about 50 feet from the Dunfield crash gate having demolished an electrical transformer next to the gate as it went through the boundary fence. The pilot, Capt. David A Hawkens, ejected before impact with the transformer and landed approx. 150 feet East of the wreckage. Unfortunately the ejection was outside the safe ejection envelope and he received fatal injuries. He was flown by a Police helicopter to Princess Margaret Hospital in Swindon at 0745Z but sadly declared dead at 0855Z This accident occurred due to a hung up pogo and resulted in changes to procedures so such a mishap couldn't happen again.633 squadron wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 3:10 pmImagine its very windy at Fairford not ideal when you have a 103ft wingspan. Yes the reason I say was because my Grandpa remembers it and I remember him telling me about. RIP.
