F35B/McLaren

Post by mirage41 » Sun Feb 02, 2020 10:21 pm

Was on parade at CBY back in the day when display pilot Sqdn.Ldr. Jim Walls thrashed the Bugatti Veyron 3-0 with his Typhoon. None of us believed that The Hampster was driving the Bugatti.

Have this evening watched the F35B show the £2M McLaren what it's all about. Again, can't believe the TV man was driving such an important and critical race. Would you let a non racing driver thrash your car around Norfolk at 200mph?

Good job this was at the start of the programme, so I'll be able to enjoy the repeat on Tuesday evening.

I was there the day they filmed that, what a day that was. On the note of the driver, Chris Harris has a racing career background before he started in journalism.

Chris Harris is a heck of a driver, as above got his racing licences and I’m pretty sure he has competed in the Nurburgring 24hour.

In comparison to that the ‘race’ at Marham is pretty safe, drive in a straight line, take 3 left hand corners and brake. With massive run off areas and no other cars nearby.

Biggest distraction would be watching the stunning F35 overhead turning and burning for me!

I have to laugh at Top Gear, the guys who have presented the show have "flown" a supercar against a plane if I'm correct?

1) Hamster in a Bugatti Veyron against Eurofighter Typhoon flown by Sqdn Ldr Jim Walls

2) Captain Slow and his Hamster Handluggage in something horrid and boring (a bit like James May anyway) called a Cessna 182 I think against Jezza Clarkson
in a "Wonderful" Bugatti Veyron - which due to Slow's carelessness had to land in France actually won as Hamster and May cheated by ending the race by taking a train and a bus to the finish.

3) And now Chris Harris being watched by Paddy "Let the Jet see the Plane" McGuiness driving a new McLaren Supercar against the RAFs new F-35B Lightning II which was awesome, the Plane being too fast for the McLaren (as usual!)

P.S. no disrespect to the Cessna 182, it's just this is a Military Aviation Forum and its well...……..Civvy :grr(Sorry)

A number of countries have operated the Cessna 182.

Went off Top Gear some years ago. No idea what they are trying to prove with these frankly stupid competitions, which don't seem to have any relevance to motoring whatsever. I dread the day that they stupidly kill someone!!. Getting ridiculously outrageous at times. I like Cessna 182's!. Spent many happy weekends flying them in my youth. Climbed at 3 feet a day with a full load!!!!! :D :D :D

So he's now 'the member formally know as Jem60.'
I wonder why the change of name?

His old account is still on the member's list, so he would just have needed his password reset - but how is anyone supposed to contact a member of Admin if they can't log on to the forum?
The Civilian Aviation forum's 'Contact us' link (it's at the bottom of every page) is monitored by their Admin for exactly this reason, but I don't think FC's is monitored by anyone.

I wonder how many other members have multiple accounts because they've lost their password and have created a new account.

Yes, folks, It's me!!. Computer problems were responsible for the change of moniker. I'm not very computer literate, so I took the easiest option, but it's still me wot used to be Jem60. Currently sitting in a pair of shorts in the doorway of my conservatory. Beautiful day, good to be alive!!!!. Cheers peeps. :D Thanks Nighthawke. :D
